WinPE amd64 and Plus Pack 2011

I bought the upgrade to ATIH 2011 and Plus Pack 2011 because of Acronis advertising about support for Windows 7 32 and 64 bit versions. My purpose is to build a bootable Acronismedia.iso using the winpe_iso.exe included in the Plus Pack and the amd64 branch of Windows AIK for winpe3. Boot process fails with "can't find ....Windows\system32\Drivers\snapman.sys".

This is exactly the same failure I get with PP2010. False advertising?

Either Plus Pack will build bootable Acronismedia.iso from the x86 branch. I require the amd64 branch for my own techncial use in system repair.

Acronis Support is in an endless tail-chasing activity with no apparent understanding of what I need to do to accomplish what I need. I've asked proof that this can even be accomplished with no positive results other than "Plus Pack 2011 would support Windows 7 64 bit".

If any of you nice folks can show or advise me on meeting my objective I will appreciate it. Otherwise I'll do a return for refund.

I don't think it's false advertising. Supporting Windows x64 is completely different than supporting WinPE x64.

You can easily get around the 0xc0000359 snapman.sys error by manually inserting the version of snapman.sys that gets installed on Windows x64. However, this doesn't solve the main problem since WinPE x64 doesn't included the 32-bit subsystem. When trying to run TI you'll get another error: "The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present."

In my opinion, what you're trying to do isn't worth the hassle (if you did manage to get it working). As far as I know, you should be fine running 32-bit WinPE on a 64-bit system.

Oh, I can backup and restore from x86 build, never argued that. However, I only use Acronis as one tool of several on a WinPE 3 disk. And you can't do a 64 bit system repair with an x86 build.

An Acronis Support Professional made this statement to me:

"I apologize for the delay. As you wanted to know whether Windows 7 WinPE3 amd64 bit version is supported on the Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack. I assure you that it is supported in Acronis True Image Home 2010 & 2011 Plus Pack as well."

Additionally you can find similar implied support of 64 bit Windows throughout their site. Your interpretation may vary.

From the TI 2011 manual: Acronis WinPE ISO Builder supports only x86 WinPE 2.x and WinPE 3.0. This WnPE distribution can also work on x64 hardware.

You can believe what you want, but as far as I am able to tell, it's not supported in WinPE amd64. TI doesn't run. If Acronis Support has a method, I'd like to see it, but I suspect it's a case of misunderstanding or they're just not correctly informed.

Again, WinPE x64 is not Windows x64. They are completely different. WinPE does not include everything that Windows includes. Support for many features is left out.
