XP-SP3 hang up with True Image Home 2009 - without Norton

Thread needs solution

Hi,

on my Windows Xp-SP3 System I run very sucussfull Acronis True Image Home 11 and Disc Director Suite 10.

Now I have purchased and installed an upgrade to true Image Home 2009. After restarting the computer and about 5-10 minutes, the systems freezes. I can't start or close a program except the task manager, but it will be not able to stop any program and showes only the idle mode who occupies the system. I start the computer several times and when I'm quick enough, I even can start True Image Home 2009 and it runs fine. But after  some minutes the system freezes again.

Now I deinstalled TIM 2009, installed TIM 11 and the system is stable.  I installed TIM 2009 again from the CD but with the same freeze trouble.

Any idea what the cause can be?

Bernd

It may be there are leftovers from the unistallation of TI11 and they could be conflicting with the ATI2009 installation.  You might try uninstalling ATI11 again with the ADD/REMOVE control panel and then run a registry cleaner.  CCleaner and ATF-Cleaner are good ones that are not aggressive in what they remove.  Then reboot and reinstall ATI2009.

If that doesn't work, Acronis provides a cleanup utility that will remove all traces of the product.  The down side of this is that it will remove Disk Director also so if you go this route, you'll need to reinstall both ATI2009 AND Disk Director.

CCleaner can be found here:  http://www.ccleaner.com/download

ATF-Cleaner can be found here:  http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25

Hello dh27564,

Thank you using Acronis Products
Make sure that you are using the latest build of the program http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/

Disable the Distributed Link Tracking Client service:

Windows XP:

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Services -> , find "Distributed Link Tracking Client" and double-click on it
Click the "STOP" button to stop the service
Then right-click it choose properties and set startup type to Disabled.

Check disks for errors:

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r" (where DISK is the partition letter you need to check) for every partition that is visible in My Computer. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

In some cases Acronis drivers may interfere with drivers of other software installed on your computer. E.g. Antivirus programs can seriously influence Acronis software from proper functionality. To overcome this issue you should download and install the latest builds of Antivirus software or temporarily disable it.

If nothing helps contact Acronis support and ask them provide you the latest SnapAPI drivers for Acronis True image program you have. The SnapAPI module is in charge of all I/O operations on the hard disk of Acronis software working in Windows.
