Acornis writes to HD instead of existing external drives

Thread needs solution

Using Acronis True Image 2015 for PC and Mac, Version: 1.0.6725

On MBP Retina, Mid 2012, with 500 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM, OS X El Capitan, v. 10.11.3

Performing two identical daily backups, one encrypted and the other not, to two external WD 2 TB drives.

The following event has already happened twice in two months.

When Acronis starts, instead of backing up to the external drives, it suddenly decides to back up to the HD itself (where the files being backed up are stored)!  This of course fills up the HD in short order since, not finding an exisintg image, Acronis creates a "volume" and performs a full backup.  This requires that I stop Acronis, locate the volume that it created, change permissions, and delete it.  To make matters worse, I now have to set up a new backup and delete the previous one.

Interestingly, this has happened to only one of my two backups!  To date, the one that is encrypted has not experienced this act of senility, only the one that is not encrypted.  I have no idea why Acronis is losing its mind, but I don't have time to deal with this problem.  If there's no solution, I'll have to consider a different backup option.

Thank you for your kind help,

Peter

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your posting! We tried to reproduce the issue on our side using two removable disks. but without success. I would recommend you testing Acronis True Image 2016 and if the issue comes back, please contact our support team for detailed investigation (you will have 30 days of free support).

Thank you,
