Backup finalizing

Thread needs solution

After installing Acronis 2 weeks back I ran the program succesfully backing up to the cloud and to an external drive. This last attempt at backing up to my external drive has failed 3 times. on the 4th try it proceeded through to the finilizing stage and has been hanging there for over 24 hours. I quit the program and restarted. It opens the same way each time. Finalizing. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. After reinstalling....same thing. Finilizing. Any idea what I can do to fix this problem?

Dino, try running disk utility/first aid on the source and destination disk to check for errors and see if that helps as bad sectors can cause an backup to fail if it can't get past them.

If that has no effect, try updating the source and destination of your backup task again (even if they're the same, re-pick them and run a backup right after).  I'm not too sure on the Mac side, but in Windows, if the source changes at all (paritions size, recovered from a backup, etc), the disk UUID changes so Acronis sees it as a different disk.  Also, in Windows, USB drives are sometimes assigned different drive letters automatically, or if they are paritioned, they can also appear as a different disk to Acronis. Might have similar impact on OS X or OS Sierra too.

If neither of the above helps, what happens if you create a new backup task (use a unique name for the new one) and try to backup?  Any luck if you need to try this route.

Thanks Bobbo_3C0X1, I ran the disc check on both drives and all came back good. I think it may be a space issue. Only problem is I can not stop the current finilzing function. It will not allow me to delete the backup or even stop it. Continues to say Finalizing no matter what I do. Any further suggestions on how to get this stopped and delete this current backup so I can move to a bigger drive?

Thanks Dino

It sounds like it got stuck.  Although not good for the current backup file (most likely) you may have to force close Acronis.  You can see if pressing:

command+option+esc brings up the force quit applications windows and try to force quit out of Acronis so you can go in and delete the task or set it to manual so it doesn't try to run again until you can sort it out.

Before doing this though, I'd recommend contacting techncial support if you have support.  If not, at a minimum, send feedback through the app and attach a system report to go with it (if you can).  Then reference this thread in the comments of your feedback with the behavior your seeing.

Bobbo_3C0X1 I too am having this issue. In the above you used the phrase: "force quit out of Acronis so you can go in and delete the task or set it to manual so it doesn't try to run again until you can sort it out". I can get Acronis stopped but how do I delete tasks? I too am on a Mac running High Sierra. I DO have enough room on the external drive for the backup but it has been "Finishing" for over a week.

OK. I think I figured out how to delete tasks. In "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Acronis is a folder, Scripts. I looked in the three scripts there with a text editor and found out which ones I wanted to delete and then trashed them. Restarted Acronis and have created a new task to backup to the newly erased USB drive that is 2 TB larger than the drive I am backing up from.
