Can Mac version mount Windows tib files?

Thread needs solution

Can the Acronis for Mac software mount and parse a .tib file created by a Windows PC? (for example to retrieve a Word document saved from a Windows PC and restore to a Mac). This would be really useful if so. Also of course the reverse would be useful and allow Windows PCs to be able to work with Mac backups. Our household has a mixture of Windows and Mac machines and I would like to be able to recover documents from any machine to any other machine.

Hello HowieG,

thank you for your question.

The feature you require is planned for both - Acronis True Image for Mac (restore files from a .tib archive created on Windows PC) and for Acronis True Image for Windows (file restore from a .tib archive created on Mac). We understand the importance of such functionality for you and will do our best to implement it as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Hello Acronis-Team!

The issue is still open. Acronis True Image Mac 2016 (Version 2.0.5694) still says that Windows-TIB cannot be opened with Mac-Version.

When will this be possible?

Best regards.

Hi holkar,

there is no exact ETA for this functionality, however I'll notify development that the feature is asked for.

Can you please describe a scenario you'd like to have this feature for?

Thank you,

Hi Anna!

My primary Admin-Machine is a Mac. Sometimes I have to extract single files from Acronis-Backups of other Users (Windows-Users). It would be great if I could do this on my Mac.

Best regards.

Thank you for clarification, holkar! I'll attach this scenario to the relevant change request.

I'm not sure about mounting, but I have successfully restored files and partitions from a Mac backup using Acronis in Windows.  As an example, I used Acronis to backup my USB flash drive with my Acronis bootable recovery media on it in the Mac version.  I Then went to my Windows machine and restored that image to another USB flash drive in Windows and the result was a working USB flash drive.  I would point out that Macs and Windows both support FAT32 file systems though so this may be why it was successful.  I'm not so sure how things would go using an OS X journaled drive and restoring somethign to an NTFS one, but if it is just files/folders, I don't see why it wouldn't work either.

As of today, it is STILL!!! not possible to open/ mount .tib files to extract i.e. a single file.

July 2014 it was announced, we have Sept. 2017! This is not acceptable!

Hello everyone!

I can totally understand the importance of this feature, however, due to different archive formats and different platforms, it is quite hard to implement it.

We are not planning to implement it for image recovery but we are - for file recovery, however, there is no ETA for this feature.

As a current workaround I would suggest using Cloud backups. In this case you would have our WebRestore page where you can download the file from another Cloud backup regardless of the platform:
https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2017/#38877.html

I'm rather upset with this. I've been a user of Acronis FOR YEARS! I'm trying to switch from a Windows PC to a Mac and imagine my surprise that ATI 2019 STILL can't open a Windows .tib file.

This is simply NOT a "file format" problem. Every other software manufacturer manages to do this with their apps. You control the format of your files, not Apple. I'm so livid over this I could scream. I've literally spent years praising ATI and shelling out money every year for new versions just to read "we suggest using Cloud backups" - I BET YOU DO!!! You guys charge for storage on "the cloud". I have a 48TB NAS in my office, I don't need your "cloud", I need a product that works.

Hello John,

we're sorry to know about your disappointment. As the workaround, you might succeed in installing a desktop version of Acronis True Image onto Windows running on the BootCamp to access the archives made in Windows. Currently there is no Win to Mac and vice versa migration method.

Hello Acronis,

now, in year 2021, what about the feature? It is in the darned 7th year possible to mount macintosh oder windows image files?

Best Regards

Hello Deltapark Ltd.,

I'm afraid no news here, Acronis True Image for Mac supports only backups created on a Mac

Hello Ekaterina, thank you for you answer. Is there any possibility to mount Mac-Images on Mac?

Unfortunately, this feature is not supported in the Mac version. I've added your comment as a vote for the existing feature request (internal ID for ref TI-79983 [Mac] Mount backups), thank you!
