I am upgrading the HDDs in all our computers. I had no problem cloning the PC, installing HDD and copying everything, including OS to new drive......Now on the MacBookPro I seem to not have the same options on the Acronis True Image software (same software, bought 3 computer "PC & Mac"). There is a backup option but no cloning option. I am afraid if I only do backup it will not do the iOS. Any help will be appricated.

Hi gng@pacbell.net,

thank you for your question.

Acronis True Image 2016 doesn't offer cloning function on Mac systems, but you can back up your system and restore it to the new drive:

  1.     Back up your hard drive to an external storage media, such as Acronis Cloud, USB drive, or a network share.
  2.     Turn off your Mac, and then replace your old hard drive with a new one.
  3.     Boot your Mac by using Acronis bootable rescue media.
  4.     Recover your Mac from the backup to the new hard drive.

Thank you,

The response leaves out some information.  If I try to make rescue media on the Mac, it asked which disk I want to make bootable.  What is this and why is it relevant.  At the time I want to make the rescue media, I may bit know which disk I would want to transfer the copy to so that I have a new bootable disc.

I just discovered that I cannot use a CD or DVD for the rescue media - that's just friggin great.  So I basically have to dedicate a piece of much more expensive hardware like a USB flash drive.

Will thiss rescue media work for any of my computers or just the one used to create it?

Hi Ralph Wild,

I am sorry for the inconvenience. Since most of the recent Macs and Macbooks have been released without CD/DVD drives, a decision was made not to implement this feature in the program.

In any case, you cann follow these instructions to create a bootable rescue media.
