Just one thing missing for me

Thread needs solution

I've been using Acronis for many years in Windows. The Mac version seems pretty simple compared to the Windows counterparts, and that could be a problem for others, but not for me.

I downloaded the free trial and my trial period expires in 6 days. I think I will NOT purchase the license, and it's not because I did not like the trial, but because this product has a very big shortcoming for me: It only saves 10 versions, and that's too few for my needs. I will keep visiting this site from time to time in order to check for updates, but I won't purchase a product that will not deliver to my needs.

Everything else is non important to me: I don't need scheduling, I don't need to rename backups, I don't even need half the features the Windows version offers... this one is just good to me... IF it allowed to hold as many versions as the media can hold. Once the destination disk is full I will just start another full backup in another, and then switch them as they get full. That's the procedure I follow with Windows, and I can hold as long as 8 or 9 months in a single disk, with daily versions. I understand this is a new product, it has to mature, and that's why I'll wait. I don't mind beta testing features and the like, but I won't pay for it :-P

So, best wishes for the developing team. I hope this product will be good for me in a close future, and I'll be happy to purchase it then...

Kind regards...

Hello Mr. Sardinas,
thank you for your feedback! I'll forward your request to development so that they can consider it by working on future versions.
As a workaround you can follow the advice from our user guide:
"In the case of a local or network backup location, you can create more than 10 versions by
setting a new destination for the backup. The versions stored in the previous location will not be
deleted."
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply... Unfortunately this workaround is not good for me because it forces me to start over with a new full backup, which would defeat the whole incremental versioning altogether. The "solution" for the 10-version-limit would be to use a separate disk for every 10-version set, something that looks like a waste for me... In the meantime I'll stick with the 10-version limit and the disk rotation scheme, getting a 20-version backup set... but this is not the solution, I don't really see a real motive for a version limit (at least not in the paid version)

I've finally purchased the Mac version, but not because I like it the same as I like the Windows version, but because it's the only REAL incremental backup solution in the market... and that's sad. you have a technology that enables you to convince clients to buy your product because it's great, not because all others are worse options... I hope you'll manage to change that in a near future, at least before someone else finds out the way of supplying people with a better solution, and you lose people like me, who stick with this version because everything else is just plain unusable.

Thanks a lot, and kind regards...

Any news on this?

Hello Mr. Sardinas,
sorry for the delayed response.
As I promised I forwarded your feedback to development and it was reviewed.
According to our database this request is going to be implemented in future versions, but at the moment I cannot provide any ETA.
Best regards,
Anna

Thank you very much for your response... anyway, as I've stated on another thread, there is a BIG issue for me with VMWare Virtual machines, and I've had to stop using Acronis until it's fixed, and since I don't have an ETA for that neither, this issue is not really important right now... Anyway, I'm pleased to see the team cares to answer people's issues, 'cause it means you care... that's more than I can say about other companies.

Best regards and keep at it...
