Support for "hot backup" for VMWare Fusion 7?

Thread needs solution

Hey everyone/Acronis. Running a couple of VMWare Fusions 7 VM's on my Mac (Yosemite).

Does anyone know if True Image 2015 for Mac allows backing up of running VM's? (don't believe this is part of the question, but as an aside it will be to a TB drive).

I realize I can shut them down and run a backup, but am interested in nightly (for example) backups without having to shut down the VM(s).

Thanks in advance,
Greg

I received an email back from their customer support email. Thought I would post it in case anyone was curious:

"Greg, it was not tested. VM might run during the backup, however we cannot guarantee that it will function well after the restore. As we may end up with a conflict with the backup and the currently running VM."

So, my follow up question would be, can Parallels be backed up while running?

The sales tab for True Image for Mac appears to claim this is a feature:

"Parallels compatible
If you work with Parallels Desktop 9 or later, your virtual system is backed up exactly the same way as your Mac. Other virtual machines are supported, too".

I wonder what this really means? Does this mean that this works only if SmartGuard is enabled?

If anyone has any experience I would sure like to hear more about this.

Thanks!
Greg

Hello Greg,

apologize for the delayed answer.

Parallels Desktop (up from 9) is supported. That means, during Mac backup an Acronis Snapshot is created for each VM. In such a way Acronis True Image for Mac creates a backup of a Mac incl. consistent backup of running VM.
SmartGuard is not needed.

VM Ware Fusion is not supported in such a way.
If you need to backup your Mac with VM Ware Fusion VMs, please ensure your VMs are shut down - so that you have consistent backup of your VMs.

Kind regards,
