On trial - thinking of buying but questions

Thread needs solution

I'm just wondering why you chose Acronis? There are several options and I'm wondering what you like about Acronis most.

I used it years ago as a PC user with my windows machine. I'm thinking it was version 7 but I can't find the box.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, in my opinion, it would be for the cloud backup option, if that is a desired feature.  Having the offsite retention can be very useful, but I would not use it for the only method of backing up as it can be slow for backup and recovery to the cloud.  That is not an Acronis limitatoin, but typical with most cloud backup solutions due to bandwidth and ISP contraints upload constraints.

OS X already does a great job of backing up and restoring with time machine for OS X by itself.  If you're just doing local backup, for most people, I would think Time Machine would be sufficient. However, you might have an advantage with Acronis if you are running Parallels or VMware Fusion within OS X since Acronis is supposed to backup the virutal files at the block level (preventing large backups of the ever changing virtual file extensions).  I have not tested myself, but please check out this press release from 2014:

Acronis Introduces the First Full-Fledged Personal Backup Solution to Protect Apple® Mac® Users

FYI, you get 30 days to test out the software for free.  You can also purchase and have 30 days for a no questions asked refund so there isn't much risk testing it out.  I'd take it for a spin and see if it meets your needs above what Time Machine already does - especially if Cloud backup is something you're interested in and/or you are running Windows VM's from within OS X.
