You must have administrator privileges to run Acronis True Image after upgrade to 8024, 5573 runs fine

Thread needs solution

I cannot open Acrnois True Image.app after upgrade to 8024 build, a dialog window appears saying "You must have administrator privileges to run Acronis True Image". My account has admin priviledges, and the older build 5573 restored from Time Machine backup runs fine. In fact, after I run restored 5573 and launched it, it prompted for my password a couple of times, unlike 8024 which just throws the error. I'm on the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.3.

I don't have it installed on a Mac so just a shot in the dark. Check the properties of the truimage application. Do administrators have read/write access? And/or if you add your account specifically to it, with that access does that help?

on the Windows side, sometime rerunning the installer can repair permissions that may have had in issue during the original upgrade. Perhaps try on the Mac and reboot before launching.

If not, I'd suggest opening a support ticket since this is a new version and not a lot of Mac feedback has provided in the forum yet.

Alexander, if you are ready to help us in the investigation of this issue, please open a support ticket, as suggested by Bobbo.

If not, just apply the cleanup tool and reinstall the software.

Slava

Hi Slava,

Running the cleanup tool and then installing the newer version did not help, it still did not prompt for password and displayed the "You must have administrator privileges..." message. I also verified the permissions - my account had read/write access, and admin group had read access to Acronis True Image.app, this is the same permissions the older version has set. I'm sure the cleanup tool worked properly - it removed a lot of files, and I had to reactivate and reconfigure the old version after I restored it when the new one refused to work. The old vesion works for me, so this is not urgent. I'll open a support ticket.

Thanks for your help

FWIW, I am having the same issue. Have verified permissions, etc. Get same "You must have administrator privileges to run Acronis True Image" error.

Thank you.

For best support, those having this issue should run a system report and send it to Acronis - opening a technical support case would be ideal as well.  There's not much we can do in the forum if there is a bug causing this issue for some of you and the forum moderators don't make it into every forum post.  A support ticket with a system report will help ensure it gets some attention.

5537 stopped working for some reason, apparently after recent macOS updates - the UI launches, but backup process does not start. So I had to make another attempt to update to the latest 8024.

After some poking around, I've discovered that running

sudo /Applications/Acronis\ True\ Image.app/Contents/MacOS/true_image

works - the UI appears, and the backup seems to be working. So the only issue is that double-clicking Acronis True Image.app in Finder, or running /Applications/Acronis\ True\ Image.app/Contents/MacOS/Acronis True Image with or without sudo from console results in the error message.

I've opened a ticket with support.

Was this resolved?

I just down loaded the current version and it still has the same issues.

I restored the older version just like I did when I read these comments 3 months ago. Thought it would resolved with a later update.

I really don't want to give my kids the root password to run this app, and I don't care to develop a script to do something the older version was capable of doing.

Thanks,

Anyone resolved this? it happen on my Mac with 2021 version
When I first use with ATI 2021 ver.30480, it works wonderfully.

Then after I install the new updated, it totally corrupted.
I run the cleanup and try to install back the ver.30480 and I could not get it working anymore

Hello Henry,

I haven't found any known issues in the product that would cause this error when a user is logged in as admin. Are you sure that the user account in question has administrative privileges?

Hi Ekaterina

Yes. All my apps can run except ATI 2021. And beside that’s the only account I’m using.

Acronis support asking me to use another account just for the app and I feel this is not appropriate. I can’t be possibly always create an account and use whenever there’s an update.
