Acronis True Image 2019 Restore entire disk from backup images files failed due to format/resize error

Thread needs solution

I know, the product is out of supporting period already. But I am facing to an urgent case that I need to use the True Image 2019 for a disk restoring operation.

Whatever I choose either disk recovery or restoring by partitions level, the recovery process failed due to format/resize error. The recovery action is recovery the disk to the original disk(SSD) only, not a new disk.

Hallo Timmy Leung,

The backup archive is OK and was successfully “validated”?

Most often, the cause is a faulty file system on the hard disk or SSD that needs to be restored.

I would check all visible partitions with "chkdsk /f /r".

Hello Timmy!

Welcome to the forum.

The "format/resize error" you're encountering during the recovery process could be due to a variety of reasons, including compatibility issues, disk structure problems, or corrupted data. Here are some steps you can try to address the issue:

  1. Check Disk Health and Integrity: Before proceeding with any recovery operation, ensure that both the source and destination disks are in good health. Run disk diagnostics and check for any bad sectors or physical issues. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows…

  2. Validate Backup Image: Make sure the backup image you're using for the recovery process is intact and not corrupted. If the image itself is corrupted, it could cause errors during the recovery process. You might want to try creating a new backup image if possible.

  3. Free Up Space: If you're restoring to the original SSD, ensure that the destination disk has enough free space to accommodate the recovered data. Lack of space can lead to format/resize errors.

  4. Check Disk Format: Ensure that the destination SSD has the same or larger capacity compared to the source disk. If the destination disk is smaller, you might encounter resizing errors.

  5. Use Disk Management Tools: If the recovery process is failing due to formatting or resizing issues, you might want to use third-party disk management tools to format and prepare the destination disk properly before initiating the recovery.

Feel free to contact if you have any questions.

Best regards.
