Moved - Announcing: Acronis Discussion Forums and IE discussion
Hello all,
We're opening Acronis Discussion Forums. Please read this small article to get some basic tips how to start.
First of all - you will need your Acronis Login to be able to post on Forums. Use your registered e-mail address and password to log in. If you do not have the account on Acronis Web Site - you can register on at https://www.acronis.com/my/index.html
The very first thing you would like to do after logging into Forums is setting your Nickname. You can do it by opening My Account->Edit->Personal Information.
In 'My Account' you can also upload small picture as your forum avatar and create a signature for you.
Edited: I've moved this thread to 'Other' as originally it was not really intended to discuss IE and updated. Feel free to continue the discussion here.

I noticed that too on my laptop (still with IE6). When I clicked on it, it wanted to install IE8 -- not what I would call an update.

I do not like IE8 at all, with Its nag messages. IE8 asks me if I want to set it up and so forth every time I start IE8 up. I recently had a situation where a page would start lo load and before the page would finish loading the tab would break. I wanted to go to microsoft to see if they had a patch, so it race to get to where I was going before the freaken tab broke again. If I could remove IE all together.

If you want to use Win 7, it will come with IE8. It's working well here - I see nothing wrong with it. Once it is set you don't, at least I don't, get any nags. The only nit pick is that it uses the tabbed feature which, on a 12 inch notebook, takes up valuable screen space. I've never like tabs for that reason. On a system that can handle a 1440 x 900 resolution it isn't an issue.

This thread has strayed from the original topic, but in IE8 you can disable tabbed browsing if you don't like it. Go to Tools > Internet Options, and on the General Tab, uncheck "Enable Tabbed Browsing":

Hmmm ... can't find that .... have Tools>Internet Options, not just Options. But even among Internet Options I can't find that setting. Here's my IE8 screen shot of the "About"

Sorry; the appropriate menu is called Internet Options. After the dialog box opens you will be on the General tab. Click the Settings button in the Tabs portion of the dialog to open the Tabbed Browsing Settings dialog. See the figure above.

Michael:
Sorry that we all strayed from the intent of your original post. Perhaps you could move replies #1 - 9 to the "Other" section of the forum.

Is Acronis saying I have to install IE8 for me to use the forum correctly? I hope not. I am presently using IE6 without any problems from any other application. If IE8 is not necessary to use this forum, please remove the "Missing Update" message at the top of the screen. Charles Ranheim

Hello all,
Charles, this add-on with 'Missing Update' message is related to our Knowledge base. I would consult with our KB administrator what we can do with it.
P.S I'm using IE7 and it's working fine here.

This is not just a KB problem. The Forum pages also have the following code in them:
[if IE 6]>
script type="text/javascript">
var IE6UPDATE_OPTIONS = {
icons_path: "http://forum.acronis.com/sites/all/modules/Other/ie6update/images/",
message: "Internet Explorer is missing updates required to view this site. Click here to update... ",
This causes a fake Information Bar to appear on every page issuing an annoying and blatantly FALSE message.
Treating your customers like this is not the way to start out a new forum.

IE6 is an HTML programmers nightmare, and MS are trying their level best to remove it from circulation, even though they have just (reluctantly) extended their support date for it.

I found a significant issue with IE 8, it could not open the HTML file included in http://go.internet.com/?id=474X1150&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.php.net%2Fget%….
So I switched to Firefox 3.5.2, which I was like to do anyway.

As my main browser I use Opera 9.64 and it is widely accepted, I can think of only one execption...windows update. I am posting from Opera now, so for Acronis to switch to only IE8 would mean that if people didn't want to use IE that they might not come here.

Works fine with IE 8 here. And Firefox...

Carver:
The site works fine with Firefox. Does it not work with Opera?

Hello all,
This message should appear only for people who are using IE6. Other browsers are not affected by this message.
Thank you,

Again I ask, is it a requirement I update away from IE6 in order for me to use this forum? If so, this is the first time I ran across this restrction. I would think there are many people out there still using IE6, especially given the fact MS says they will continue to support it until 2014.

Hello all,
IE6 Update message was removed.
Thanks,

I am trying to get into the Forum to read a KB article. Unfortunately, even though the site says I have a successful login, it also says Access Denied to the forum. What the heck is going on? All I want is to figure out how to do a complete uninstall of Acronis True Image Home 11.

Hello Dennis,
You are most probably trying to access article which was removed from public access for some reasons.
If the article you're trying to access is this, than the issue is that one for the utilities we used to clean the system was removed from download. I am talking about Windows Installer CleanUp Utility which is no longer available.
This utility was used in Acronis clean up tool. Our developers are currently working on new clean up solution. And the article content is being updated.
Thanks,
Andrey.
