Data Recovery "Clean Room" service recommendation?

Thread needs solution

My hard disk failed before I installed Acronis software, and I have no current backup! I have had two different computer repair shops attempt to recover the data without success. The last one said the read/write head is dragging on the hard disk, and that I need the services of a "clean room" to recover the data. I checked into the cost of using Driversavers, but can't afford the huge price tag. Does anyone have a recommendation of an affordable data recovery service?

Any data recovery service that has "clean room" capabilities (the ability to open the drive and use sophisticated (expensive) equipment to recover data from the disk platters) will be expensive. It all comes down to the cost to replace the lost data, and what you are willing to spend to recover it. You may have lost even more data if someone has tried software data recovery on a drive that has physical problems. I have used Kroll/On-Track and they do an excellent job, but the cost is high.

Thanks for the reply James. I have not heard of Kroll/On-Track, but will check out their services. Losing my data feels like having my house burn down. I even asked my homeowners insurance provider if they covered data recovery under my policy but they don't. I guess I will have to start saving my money to do a recovery one day. Sigh.

Jed,

You haven't mentioned which country you live in, in order to offer suggestions on companies that might be available to you.
