Drive Cleanser Issue

Thread needs solution

I have Vista home premium on my gateway laptop. I would like to use this unit on my office network. In order to do so I must upgrade to vista ultimate. When I try to do this i RECEIVE an incompatibility report which says drive cleanser mus be removed prior to the upgrade. Using the windows install/remove tool fails. I looked on the website and found that the uninstall tool should be in the drive cleanser folder, it is not. I attempted to download and install the latest version but although it downloads, the install program will not start. What should I try nexct? Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum, Larry!

No worries, I will help you to resolve this situation so you can upgrade to the new Vista version.

Most probably this issue has been caused by some Drive Cleanser traces in registry which cannot be removed, that's why you receive a message about incomplete uninstallation.

Please do the following to resolve this situation:

1. Run the product installation file

If you do not have it, you can download all necessary files from Registered products and downloads section in your account.

If you have not registered your product on our web site yet, we recommend to do it in order to receive free updates.

- Choose Product registration
- Enter the serial number for your Acronis product in the corresponding field.

2. You will be prompted to choose between Modify, Repair or Remove. Select Repair option, it will install Drive Cleanser back on your system

3. Restart your machine and run the installation file once again, but select Remove option this time

This should remove the product from your PC.

If this still does not help, please uninstall the product manually by following the instructions below (if you're not able to uninstall via Add or Remove, just skip this option):

1. Uninstall all Acronis components from Add-remove Programs (if present)
2. Download the Windows CleanUp utility, install and run it:
Select all Acronis products hit Remove:
3. Reboot the machine
4. Delete the following folders:

\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis
\Program Files\Acronis

5. Start->Run->regedit and delete the following brunch

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->Acronis

6. Reboot the PC again and try to upgrade Vista

Please let me know if you're able to resolve this situation by following the instructions I provided above. Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.
