Migrate 7 messes up Win 7 installation

Thread needs solution

Hi!
When I was told Migrate Easy 7 would perform perfectly well with Win 7 64bit, I failed to double check on this information and installed ME 7 on a Notebook with Win 7 Pro 64bit.
It did install and I rebooted the machine as required. However the software did not run, prompted failure messages and demanded reinstallation. I deinstalled and rebooted.
From this point on everything went downhill.
The system fails to boot to Windows and there's nothing I can do to repair this. Win7 doesn't boot into safe mode, boot repair can't solve the problem and there are no restore points or images.

Usually I wouldn't bother too much and do a reinstall. This time however the Notebook will have to be in extensive use in less than 12 hours. It's my boss' and it is highly customized. I wouldn't be able to setup a new system tailored to his needs in such little time.

So maybe someone knows what ME 7 does on installation and could give me a hint on what files are affected or could help me otherwise.

Thanks a lot
Chris

A couple if things.

1. Make the boot CD and use the Linux environment.

2. It is possible that Linux doesn't have the correct drivers for the laptops hardware - there may be workarounds to this. Although you started off in the Windows environment, the reboot would have taken you into a Linux one.

3. Make sure you don't select the clean original system option.

4. You might need to try a 'reverse clone' which is remove the original laptop hardrive, put into an external case. Install the new hard drive into the laptop. Boot from the CD and clone the now external original to the new internal.

5. Disconnect the external drive before trying to reboot the laptop.

6. It might just be that you new drive hasn't been marked as Active, or the old drive has had it's active flag removed.

To check that, you need a disk altering utility. Unfortunately whilst the trial version of DD11 would show you the status, it won't allow you to perform the required actions due to the drive (probably) being larger than 8MB!
