Migrate Easy 7.0 Standalone Build won't boot on Lenovo Thinkpad x301

Thread needs solution

Hello-

I need to clone my hard drive in my Lenovo Thinkpad x301, and the standalone version of Migrate Easy 7 won't boot from the rescue media. I get the loader screen, choose "Full version", and then the screen goes black and never comes back. I need the full version, not safe, because I'm migrating to a USB-connected hard disk. I have seen in other forum responses that a different ISO build is available with wider driver compatibility, is this something I can get a hold of?

Thank you,
Darren David

Is there a legacy option in the BIOS? You might find enabling this might allow the Linux drivers to work.

Does the BIOS have any USB entries? If it does the SAFE version of the CD might be able to boot and see the USB drives.

If you press F11 as the Acronis Loader.... text appears, after the word QUIET that appears try typing in

acpi=off noapic

See if the loader can now boot.

Darren,
Once you resolve your CD boot problems, past postings have indicated that the Thinkpad has special disk geometry and requires a reverse clone procedure.

(Note: are you cloning to a larger or smaller disk and do you know how the CD will handle the resizing? I am not familiar with Migrate Easy but with TrueImageHome, the automatic method resizes all partitons proportionally--including those which should not be resized.)

Cloning procedures:
1. Remove the source and replace it with the blank unformatted target disk.
2. Attach the source disk in some other alternate location such as an docking statiion or external enclosure, etc.
3. Boot from the Rescue CD
4. Perform the clone. Enclosure (source) to target computer.
5. Detach the source and any other disks.
6. First boot with only the clone installed.

Understand there is a risk involved in any cloning procedure. No vendor is excluded from this risk.
