MigrateEasy 7.0 Keeps Giving Failed to Write Sector Errors

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Situation is this: Cloning FROM a 1tb Seagate drive with two 500gb partitions. The 2nd partition/volume was removed so I'm just running one 500gb primary partition. Note that this is my operating system "C" drive. Because I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I am running Acronis Migrate Easy off of the boot CD. I'm trying to clone that drive to a new Seagate Momentus XT 500gb hybrid drive.

When running the clone, I get through all of the steps ONLY with the safe mode version (non-usb drivers) mode. It will not work under the regular migrate easy mode. None the less, when i go through the steps, I keep getting:

Failed to write sector ### of the hard disk 2.

Questions:

1: Do I need to format and create a simple volume before I run the Migrate Easy?

2: What would be causing these errors? I've seen in other forum posts that there might be another ISO that support can provide that might work for me?

3: Are there any other work arounds or should I be looking for a new product?

Note that my system is out of service until I receive a reply.

Mike

I don't quite understand why you are running ME from the CD due to having W7 installed, BUT, I'm assuming that your 1TB drive is still functioning and that you can still boot into Windows. If this is the case the first thing is to run Microsft chkdsk /r on the new drive.

What is a hybrid drive?

Are you able to have the new and old drive installed in your PC?

It is possible that a 'reverse' clone might work.
