newbie problems with snap deploy 3

Thread needs solution

I downloaded the trial version to see if it was something i could use making my work alot easier. :D

Put i ran into some problems, for some reason the server cannot see the client.
I've used the http://kb.acronis.com/content/1662 guide, but im not sure how to install the agent on the client.
I have managed to get a "aronis snap deploy agent" and a " acronis bootable agent" into the pxe server.

I would like to run the whole deployment remote, so i don't need to run around with a boot disk.

I have installed all the snap deploy 3 software on the same computer, i got no error, so i guess its no problem.

Is it possible to deploy program updates (msn, open office etc) with snap deploy 3.?

It would be nice to a short step by step newbie guide, for us less giftet administrators :D

Hello jesper mortensen mortensen,

Thank you for taking your time to contact us vuia forum and specify the issue. I would like to guide you through the process and resolve the issue you have faced.

First of all, the deployment - should you need to run it remotely - should run in the following way:

  1. Configure the PXE server to contact the Agent
  2. Boot the target machine up and press F2 on the very booting to get into the BIOS
  3. In BIOS please set the boot priority to start from the NIC. This will boot the machine into network. Quit saving changes.
  4. Once the machine is rebooted, it will boot from the network, find the PXE server and boot into the Agent.
  5. On the target machine you should be able to see that it is booting into the Agent and seems freezing on about 10% - that means that it is ready for the deployment.

After that you should be able to see the machine in the list of the computers ready for deployment. You can choose that machine and select the existing template or create the new one.

There can be several reasons why the machine is not seen by the server holding the OS Deploy Server and PXE. Should you have configured everything according to the User's Guide and the issue persists, we will need to take a closer look at the issue. Could you please kindly specify the following:

  • Are the machines in the same subnet?
  • What exactly is showing the target machine after booting from the NIC?
  • Download the free Wireshark utility, install it and do the following:

    Run the installed program from Start -> All Programs -> Wireshark; Click Capture -> Interfaces... and click the Start button corresponding to the network adapter you are using for your internet connection; Reproduce the issue without closing the Wireshark application; Click Capture -> Stop after the issue is reproduced; Save the captured data by clicking File -> Save as;

Please kindly contact me with the information gathered, I would like to review it and provide you with the solution.

Thank you in advance for cooperation, will wait for news from you.
