SBS 2k3 - Informations

Thread needs solution

Hi,
As an intern in the company adventi computer wishing to offer your products to its customers, I am responsible explore the possibilities of your backup software.
I am asking this question : is it possible to create an image of a server on a windows sbs 2003 installed in raid 5 and restore it in real time on an adjacent server in order to have exactly the same configurations for both of them ?
A NAS is it required to store the image that will be remounted on the secondary server ?
Cordially

Hello Vincent,

Let me sort this situation out for you.

First of all - yes, it's possible to create an image of your SBS server and then restore it to another server without stopping the source server. I'd recommend you to use Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server SBS Edition  for that. Data state will be transferred in the exact state as you captured it on source. Note that in case of dissimilar hardware recovery you should use Acronis Universal Restore option (it's included to SBS edition).

Regarding NAS drive - it's not required to use network as a storage for your image. You can use any network or internal \ external drive, which you can attach to the destination server.

I'd recommend you to download the trial version from here. The functional limitation of the trial version is that you can only use a software for 15 days. Windows version is fully functional  and it does not have any more limitations.
Bootable CD from trial version can be used for recovery only.
