Errors Backing up to NAS

Thread needs solution

i can not get acronis to back up to a iomega storcenter ix2 NAS

i am getting the error "error occurred while writing to the file, the network connection was aborted by the local system.

my personal vault path is \\nas1\backups\exchange ...mapped drives do not work either

i have tried removing all the security of the NAs and it still dosent work. the storcenter uses AD auhtentication for its folders and works fine for anything else and like a say i turned all that off so it was just a basic windows share with no security and still no go. it seems to back up a few GB then it happens, when i click rety it carrys on but soon drops again.

also if i try to schedule the backup, by the time the schedule starts the backup location is totally lost.. and when i edit the backup job to look at the location settings it goes orange saying the backup will fail if the location is not there when the schedule starts. its as though it drops the connection and dosent get it back. i have 2 licences and it is happening on both servers. it simply will not back up to a UNC path on the NAS.

Thanks
Gary

Which version and build of TI are you using?

Is it possible you are getting a network timeout?

Have you tried under Options of creating smaller tib files - if this works then it would point to a network timeout.

I am using latest version of Backup And recovery build 10,287 i will try the smaller tib option for manuals but the schedules stilll say "obtain location information, credentials reqiured" the vault you have selected is not available at the moment??? even though its just backed up 3gb of a 100gb backup succesfully!!? . many thanks for your response

[/edit] smaller tib files didnt work, not even @ 700mb size.

i have just tried it to a windows share on another server and once setting the location in the backup set, coming out of the software then back in, it does the same thing?? obtain location information, credentials reqiured" i am on a windows domain and have tried server\username, server.com\username nothing works?

Hello Gary,

Thank you for your responce.

Please delete the current tasks.

Please go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImage\Scripts and delete the task scripts available there. After that recreate the tasks, use the IP address instead of the computer name. Perform the backup and let us know the results.

Thank you.

Hello,

I'm having similar challenges with a D-Link DNS-323 NAS and TrueImage Home 2009 on an XP system.  Full backup starts OK, then dies with file I/O error after 2-5 Gbytes backup.  Same issues whether I use "My  Network Places" to find the NAS, or  mount the drive on "My Computer" before launching Acronis and select it thru the "My Computer" tree.  I've set DHCP refresh on my router to "One Day", and disabled antivirus and all power-down options.

Help.  Thanks.

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

Please delete the present backup task and create a new one specifying the destination by a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive. You can also use IP address instead of the computer name.

You can also use a pre backup command to mount the mapped drive for a scheduled task:

  1. Download map.drive.txt;
  2. Follow instructions in Using Batch Files in Acronis True Image.

Thank you.

Hi oleg, i have tried what you suggested but unfortunatley it still didnt work i now have to go and redo all my backup sets i had to delete :(. if i set \\192.168.50.211\backup\server in the backup location settings, it asks for my credentials... once i have done this i exit the software go back in and there is an orange highlight on "where to back up" section saying "credentials required"? i have tried as i already stated above different login values ie domain/user domain.com/user.. i have got the software working via ftp on the nas for now which works but ideally want to use a unc path.

Hello Gary,

Thank you for your response.

We have released a new build of the program #11105, please download and install it and see if the issue remains. You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.

If the issue still persists, please obtain the below information and create an e-mail request or contact Live chat service available on this page, under Contact us click on the Start here button and follow the step-by-step guide.

1) The exact model of your NAS drive.

2) 1. Download the file;
2. Run the downloaded file.
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

Thank you.

Any updates on this?
We have IX4-200d NAS boxes and are considering using TI for bare metal backup/restore from NAS.

still not working for me, even after the new update, i can get it to work using ftp to the NAS, but it delivers it in 2gb clumps. i need to remove load balancing off of my network cards and try it then, as thats the only thing sub standard i can think off. id seriously recommend testing with the demo software to back up to a NAS, before you spend all that money.

I am having the same issues using a Buffalo MIni Linkstation.

I do have success using an Iomaga USB connected drive...

One difference - the back to the USB drive create 15 - 4 mb files..
The backup to the Buffalo NAS drive tries to create 1 large file - The back up file gets to about 30Mb and then looses the connection to the nextwork drive...

Any ideas on how to force the back to the NAS drive to create multiple smaller files?

Thanks

Jay

Hello all,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

If you use Acronis Backup&Recovery 10, please do the following to create a backup file to a NAS device:

On the Create backup plan screen, tick off Advanced view. Click Change next to Access credentials under Where to back up:

Provide username and password for the Linux NAS:

The backup to NAS may fail with an error message similar to the following one:

The selected vault is not available at the moment. Please select a different vault

If you have your NAS joined to a domain or workgroup, avoid using the top level domain extension .local; e.g. If your NAS is set to be joined to mydomain.local, then connect to your NAS and change it to Mydomain.

After changing the NAS setting, please refresh your DNS cache. to do so:

Start-Run -> type in "cmd and press Enter;

In the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns

Jay,

Most probably, your USB hard drive has FAT32 file system. FAT32 supports 4GB file size. That's why the archive is divided into several parts. You can set the archive splitting in the Default backup options (Options -> Default backup and recovery options -> Default backup options -> Backup splitting -> Fixed size).

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawless for you. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
