Why is my backup to Acronis Secure Zone failing?
I have a disk (image) backup which is set to backup to the ASZ daily (on incremental basis). The options are clearly set to "When not enough space in ASZ, delete oldest backup".
It normally works fine (transparently), over the last year, i.e., it does the backing up/deleting of oldest backup as usual. However, today, I got an error message, which basically states that the backup cannot continue, since ASZ is full, and it fails -- despite the option set to "delete oldest backup"
Why is this happening? How do I resolve this in the SIMPLEST manner?
Thanks

Thanks for the response.
"Use ATI to delete older versions from the UI" -- how do I do this? I'd like to clean out the ASZ and restart over, but I can't seem to be able to get to it!
The auto cleanup rule I was using was "When not enough space in ASZ, delete oldest backup". Can't figure out why it suddenly stopped working.
Previously, whenever I've wanted to clean out the ASZ, I've only been able to do this by deleting the ASZ, and then recreating it. I was hoping to avoid the hassle this time.

To delete older version, choose "explore all versions". A window will appear showing the tracked versions in a timeline at the bottom. Right click on a version, choose delete.
Unfortunately, ATI is sometimes fickle with deleting versions.
The "when not enough..." option is a global option. It has its limitations like any other clean up rule: it will never delete a full backup, or a full and its attached partials, before having completed a new full. So it is possible to run out of space.
If you use the auto-cleaning options in a custom backup scheme, you will be able to be more accurate and make sure there is always enough space for a new full. Ideally, you would use the retention rule that limit the size of a backup. Unfortunately, the most reliable clean up option is the one where you specify how many older version chains you want to keep. Going for that safer choice requires a bit of estimating...

Couldn't get it to work through the "explore all versions" route (no idea why). But...I managed to get it done through the 'Acronis Drivecleanser' option. Just set it to 'cleanse' with a Fast Format option.
The reason I've been using ASZ is that I figure it'll be indestructible due to human error, but there's definitely a disadvantage due to flexibility, like you said. I use the backup to ASZ for daily backups, with a weekly backup to another target on Sundays, so I'm not all out of luck in case of a problem...but you make a good point regarding the flexibility issue. I think maybe I'll remove the ASZ on my notebook, but it's definitely a good idea on a multiple-user machine (to prevent mistaken deletions by less savvy end-users).
Thanks for taking the trouble to respond to my posts...much appreciated!
