ATI 2011 boot media not seeing WD My Book USB 3.0 drive

Thread needs solution

I have been using a WD My Book USB 3.0 external drive with ATI 2011 with no problems. However, I discovered that the boot media is not seeing it. It does see my Maxtor USB 2.0 drive.

WIN7 Pro 32-bit
ASUS 890G4 Extreme4 board
The board USB 3.0 is shown as NEC UPD720200. (Device manager says Renesas Electronics)
ATI 2011 builds 6942, 29 Sep 2011

Is this a known problem with the boot media, and if so, is it fixed in ATI 2012?

How big is your WD disk?
Does it see it and it is greyed out, or doesn't it see it at all?

If you ever tried to boot first from the CD to start and when ATIH 2011 is launched, to turn on the external hard drive?

Then wait 3-4 minutes and then use the Backup or Restore to go on?

Which motherboard is used? (Asrock has "Extreme4" motherboards)

Are there any newer Biosupdates for the motherboard?

With my MSI 870A G-54 has the ATIH 2011 (standard) Boot CD no problem to backing up to a USB 3.0 Sharkoon docking station or restore from USB 3.0.

It is 3 TB. It does not see it at all when used on a USB 3.0 port. If I switch to one of the USB 2.1 ports, it sees it normally, and I am able to recover data from it normally.

Yes, one of the things I tried is to boot with the recovery disk with the WD drive off, and then turned the WD power on. It was not detected after several minutes.

It is the "890GX Extreme4." It has the version 1.10 BIOS, which is the latest I have found on their support site.

I have found that if I switch to a USB 2.1 port that it is detected normally, and I can recover data from it.

It is a 3TB disk, so it is GPT, right?
Technically speaking, ATI supports GPT disks only with the Plus Pack. I cannot explain why it is working on the USB 2.1 and not on the 3.0 if this is a GPT support question, though.

Is the 3 tb split into different size partitions which are 2 GB or less?

If you do own the plus pack, it can also be used to create a bootable Winpe disk rather than use the Linux provided bootable CD.

It is only one partition, and I am not using the Plus pack. Given that it works fine with a USB 2.1 port, and there is no _practical_ speed difference, I am going to declare this solved. Gotta love computers.
