Backup file validated but restore says it is corrupted
I have a backup file that I need to restore. I created the backup using True Image v11 previously. I validated the file successfully. When I tried to restore it using the boot disk, it did not see the file. Support chat told me to use True Image 2011 to restore it because I am running Windows 7 X64. When I tried to restore the backup file using this boot disk, it saw the file but said it was corrupt and was unable to restore it. How can validation work on a corrupt file?.

I backed up the entire C: drive and that is what I am trying to restore due to a virus that invaded my system. I was hoping to restore the entire disk so that I would not have to reinstall all of the software. It seems that if True Image 2011 validates a file it should be able to restore it.

Mike,
Try validating the image when booted from the 2011 boot CD. also validate using the original version 11 CD. If you do not have a v11 CD, download the version 11 iso file from your account and burn a new v11 recovery CD.
While V11 is not Windows 7 compatible, if the v11 backup is a full and complete backup of all partitions on the Win7 disk, then yes, I would proceed to use V11 and do a full disk restore as you would be restoring the entire disk. I don't recall but if the v11 offers the "Recover disk signature" option , do checkmark this option.(on the same page as where the target disk is selected),
The CD is the recovery vehicle for the restore and it is Linux software. If it validate in the Linux mode, then it should restore in Linux mode (CD).

You can't repair your corrupt backup file until you don't use a software program to repair it. Generally software programs are not designed to repair backup file which is created in Windows 7. If you try to extract or restore data from backup file but you can't that means the file is corrupt. Last week I read an article about a software program. It was very informative.
