Acronis True Image Home 2012 has stopped working
Dell Inspiron N5110 Laptop; Windows 7 Ultimate; ATIH 2012 Build 5545
I started receiving this error message about two weeks ago and have been trying since to resolve the problem since. In addition to the subject error, I also have received "ASZ has stopped working." I tried to uninstall and reinstall program but it would not uninstall completely as indicated when I started to reinstall the options were to "repair" or "modify." I ultimately reinstalled Windows (formatting partition before starting reinstall). I installed all equipment drivers and Internet Explorer , and insured all were working properly. I then install ATIH 2012(5545). After rebooting, I immediately received again "ATIH not working." I searched the forum again for the umpteenth time to see if I could find any clues - no such luck. I did catch the notice of the new update which I downloaded and installed but no help.
Where do I go from here if installing in a new installation of Windows cannot succeed. I am not an amateur - my first home computer was a Radio Shack Model 1 (1979) but I am not an expert by far either. Any advice on how to proceed will be appreciated.

Frank,
Hard to say. Uninstall, use the 2012 cleanup utility found here http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545 ,use msconfig to create a clean boot environement (enable all Microsoft services, disable all non-Microsoft services, disable all startup items), reboot and reinstall. Verify it is working fine before you set msconfig back to where it was. If the problem subsists, you will have to contact Acronis support. If it disappears, you have a conflict with some third party software

Thank you for responding to my post seeking help. I am familiar with the processes you suggested so there was no problem there. I have repeated the cycle quite a few times of reformatting the partition, installing windows 7, configuring msconfig, installing internet explorer, installing selective hardware drivers, installing ATIH 2012 (various builds from 5545 to 7719) (but no third party software). During the processes I received at various times alerts (ASZ has stopped, ATI Monitor has stopped, ATIH has stopped).
I ran out of things to try and hope that you can offer further assistance. If there is additional information that might be helpful please let me know what it is and I will try to submit it. I keep trying to figure out if the program won't install in a new installation of windows on more than five attempts, what on my computer might be causing the problem. I have tried three different builds of ATIH inmy attempts and tried all of them from copies made from two different computers in my home so it doesn't seem it could be corrupted copies of the installation program. I also installed it on another computer in the house running XP and it installed and ran just fine. It has to be something about the laptop I use.
Will be watching to see if you can offer further suggestions. Thanks again.

I have continued trial and error approaches hoping to find a solution but to no avail. My latest scheme was to create a dual-boot partition, create a clean environment using msconfig per your instructions, install Win 7 Ult 64-bit, necessary device drivers (network particularly), and then ATIH 2012 Build 7119. The results duplicated what I experienced previously - before the install was complete an alert that ASZ had stopped working; at the end of the installation that ATI Monitor had stopped working; and finally ATIH had stopped working.
Incidentally, I purchased three licenses and the other two - one on a desktop running Win7Ult 64-bit and the other WinXP - are still working. But this is the computer I use primarily and would like to get Acronis working on it.
Since I have not succeeded in achieving a working installation of ATIH2012 am I at the end of the rope as far as finding a workable install process? A comment was made in an earlier post that maybe I would have to go to Acronis Tech Support but I have not seen a way to contact them. If that is my last possibility I would appreciate your help in how to proceed with contacting them.
Thanks,
Frank

Frank,
It looks like your problem is with the ASZ. Did you try to boot on the recovery CD, delete the ASZ and then try without it?

Pat, thank you for all your help to me trying to achieve a working installation of ATIH . Sadly I was unable to succeed even after following your advice to the best of my ability so I ended up with the ultimate solution - I scrubbed the entire HDD, recreated the OEM installation which was a Recovery Partition and a Windows 7 Home Partition. I then shrunk the Windows partition and recreated the several partitions I had had. I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate (dual boot), device drivers and then installed ATIH. It worked immediately. I am just putting the finishing touches on completing my fully restored computer.
I have a related question I hope you can answer. I will never use the Windows 7 Home Premium program and would like to delete it but need some assurances before I do. This partition is shrunk to the greatest amount permitted by Windows which is about one-half the 750 gb hard drive. Since I have no intentions of ever using this program I would like to make that space available for other uses but I am unsure if I can just delete. Acronis Disk Director describes the Recovery Partition as the "System Reserved, 100 mb, Primary MBR, Healthy (Active, System)" and the two Windows partitions as "Primary MBR, Healthy (Boot)". From this information are you able to advise me that I could delete the Windows Home partition without zapping the ability to boot my computer into the Windows 7 Ultimate program? Your valued advise will be appreciated once again.

Frank,
First, let's do a full backup of your system disk, including all the partitions on it.
The system reserved partition contains the boot files, you don't need to delete it.
Try this:
- In the Control Panel, choose System and Security, Administrative Tools, and then open System Configuration.
- Go to the Boot tab, and then click the listing for the home premium version
- Click Delete, and confirm.
Reboot the computer. It should boot normally directly into the other Windows.
At this point, you should have a working system.
Feel free to rearrange the partitions, but leave the system reserved partition with a free space of 1MB before it, do not resize it.
Do whatever you want with the other partition(s) using a partition management tool.
After the changes, if the computer doesn't boot normally, simply boot on the Windows installation DVD and choose install, repair computer.

Pat, thanks again for your help. Your instructions were exactly what the patient needed. The Windows 7 Home partition is deleted and the space now resides on the HDD as "unallocated" space and Windows 7 Ultimate is the "active" and functioning partition.
This thread has run it's course and can be closed. Any future questions will be posted as a new thread. How can I contribute to the needs of the forum? I will always treasure your assistance.
