Operations in progress blue screen of death -- how do you stop it

Thread needs solution

Periodically, when I need to do a simple restart or shut down my computer, I get a "Operations in Progress. Computer will shut down..." blue screen that resembles the MS Windows shut down screen when updates are being installed. There is no progress indicator on this screen. After extensive research, I found that this is caused by ATIH 2012 if it is performing a backup when the computer is to shut down.

There is a Knowledge Base article that says to go to the "Options" tab and select an "Machine Option" that somehow fixes this.

The problem is, my current version of 2012 (Update 2, Build 7119) does not have an option tab (see attachment). It has a "gear" settings icon, but none of the available options reference "Machine settings" of any kind.

Every time this happens, I have to power off my computer at the surge protector.

According to the Knowledge Base, there is a fax in every version after "5.0," but I cannot figure out what that means. The screen shot in the KB does not resemble Acronis True Image Home 2012 that I have on my machine.

Any solutions or work arounds?

Eric,

One thing to try. For each backup task:
- open the backup settings,
- click on the schedule,
- when the scheduler window opens, make sure that you have no box checked in the advanced settings (like " wait for the computer to be idle),
- close the scheduler window
- go to the advanced option tab, click on the validation scheduler; same thing make sure that there is nothing in the advanced scheduling option of the validation.
- verify that the default validation is what you want.

The reason is that if you have a monthly validation task that waits for the computer to be idle, the task might be delayed until the computer shuts down.
