2011 pretty much ignores my settings for backups before full, total backups, etc.

Thread needs solution

I am using home 2011.

I specified a full version after 3 differentials. Store no more that 4 recent version chains.

What I am getting is:

1 full backup.
6 differential backups.

There is no clear path to consolidating this without returning to the old full backup version, other than deleting the whole thing and starting over with a new full backup. Then doing this again later.

There is only one full backup. I don't want to retain this - is is old. But I see no way to make it do what I told it or get some satisfactory backup file configuration.

Can anyone provide some guidance?

Hal,

Could you post a screen shot of your image files?

Whilst there is an option to make a new full after so many backups you need to also select consolidation if you wish to delete the complete archive via the retention options.

I think you would fins using the Chain option more reliable.

Thanks, I started over and switched to Chain and will see how it works out. I just deleted the entire archive. Which of course stupidly deletes the backup definition as well.

Change the 6 to 3 or adjust the 6 and 4 to meet your needs.
Create a new task pointing to a new empty target folder or sub-folder.
Never delete good backups until you have good replacements.

Thank you. I believe that is what I had set. But I could be wrong. Anyway, too late. Started over.
