File restore to different location with folder structure
Acronis True Image Home 2010 Build 5,055
I have files on two different computers which I am trying to keep synchronized. When both were Windows XP, the folder structure was the same, and I just used Windows Backup and carried the data back and forth (external HDD).
I upgraded one machine to Windows 7, so now the base folder structure is different:
e.g. XP: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\...
W7: C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\...
Can I restore from one to the other, with a different "base folder"? Or do I have to go file-by-file?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked into synchronization but for me, the best solution would be as I described.
It does seem that if I merely restore "to a different location", but do NOT select the option to retain the original file structure, that things should work properly. In other words, if I choose to always restore to the "My Documents" folder, the appropriate subfolders should be used, regardless of whether My Documents is in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\... or in C:\User Name\Documents\...
And, although the backup file may contain all the files, the only ones that will be copied over will be those that are "newer" (assuming I make the correct option choices).

Ron:
Sorry that I can't answer your original question but I just don't have any experience restoring files and folders with TI. I only use TI to make and restore partition images. Perhaps someone else can offer suggestions.
