HELP - Acronis Home 2012 file backup never completes

Thread needs solution

Using paid version 7133

This just started happening recently so I suspect it may be related to a windows update or some other conflict. I've been using acronis home 2012 to backup my photography folder which is about 700GB in size and starting a few days ago, it gets to 2 minutes left and never finishes. It'll alternate between 2 minutes left and 1 minute left for hours.

My backup disk is a 2TB disk with only the photography folder on it so there's plenty of space and I have 700GB of free space on the source drive.

I also want to add that I can still do a partition level backup of the drive. That works.

I paid for a per-incident support but that has been useless. They don't have a clue. I have run chkdsk /f and have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and the behavior persists. Is there a limit on the folder size?

Anyone else having a similar issue?

Jack,

I don't have a solution for you since you already did the basic troubleshooting of chkdsk, uninstallation...
It is possible that ATI is choking on the size/number of files as this happened on older versions, but I didn't see this kind of problem with recent versions.

My point would rather be that using ATI to backup photos is not ideal: if any byte goes wrong in the archive, you lose the entire archive. Since photos are typically compressed (unless you use RAW formats), you don't gain anything in putting this type of file in a proprietary container.
If your photos don't change much, or you don't care about losing older versions or deleted files, you could simply sync your folders.
I use Syncback to backup my content (videos and photos). The tool allows you to retain older versions, etc. Other free tools include SyncToy (XP), Karen's replicator, GoodSync (although these ones, like ATI Sync, don't keep older versions).

Jack,
I had a similar problem of the hanging and it was traced to the disk. Open your Windows Events log and check for errors or warnings in both the apps and system logs. Chkdsk and the vendor utility could not find any errors but replacing the disk fix the problem.
