ITZAMLOCK File
Since upgrading to ATIH 2012 in November last year literally hundreds of ITZAMLOCK Files have appeared in my ...\Local Settings\Temp folder. They are all marked as 0KB in size. What are they? Can I delete them?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, I came here after having Googled for .itzamlock. I'm trying to see what software is causing my temp folder in Windows to be overrun with these files. It turns out it's Acronis Backup, which I'm indeed running (version 2014.)
So my question is, they obviously haven't fixed it since version 2012, have they?
Any way to remove these files other than doing it manually? Also any hope that they fix this bug?

Sounds like you researched this already so no need to elaborate. My suggestion would be an uninstall, run clean up utility, and reinstall.

There are other apps that exhibit similar behavior so it's possible that Windows plays a part here as well. That is the reason behind my suggestion.

Thanks. No it's not true, apps should not leave their "junk" in the temp OS folder. It's what is called a bug. As for reinstalling, I don't like to mess with a backup solution and especially with the backup files it already created by uninstalling the software. So please don't divert the original question.

Your right, apps should not leave temp files in the OS temp folder but some do. Adobe Acrobat comes to mind as one such app. I know of no FIX for this issue however, my opinion is that the underlying problem here is backup task corruption. I do not have the time right now to explain that but you might give this a try. Create new tasks for your backups. When you do so point those tasks to a new folder. Once those tasks have been created and prove to run successfully delete the original tasks. If the original tasks are scheduled change those to non scheduled while you test the new tasks. Additionally delete the contents of the temp folder that contains the offending files prior to testing the newly created tasks. After you test run the newly created tasks have a look back at the temp folder to see if such files are still appearing. If not then the problem may well be solved. If the temp files continue to appear then the uninstall/reinstall would be the next best option.
In brief these temp files you see are used by the app while creating a backup and the app should delete them upon task completion but since there is a problem in that process an infinite loop of sorts begins and the app continues to attempt task completion but cannot so these temp files continue to accrue. This can continue eventually filling the entire free space on the disk partition but that does not happen in all cases.
