Acronis product for Windows Server 2008 R2 host plus one Hyper-V Ubuntu VM

Hello,

I plan to run Windows Server 2008 R2 on a dual Intel Xeon computer (primarily handling file share, SQL, and FlexLM licensing duties). In addition, I would like to enable the Hyper-V role on the same server to run one guest Unbuntu Linux VM.

What Acronis product(s)/license(s) are best suited to provide complete disaster recovery and backup for both the host server and the guest Ubuntu VM?

Would it be sufficient to shutdown the VM say nightly (automatically) and schedule "Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows" to backup the whole disk volume (which presumably contains the Ubuntu VM image)? Or would "Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition" be required (or provide significant benefit) in this scenario.

It's possible to do it with " Server for Windows". With "Virtual Edition" you get backup of VM's volumes directly instead of .vmdk files containing it. Then it's possible, fo example, if filesystem of Linux VM is not located on LVM volume, to access files inside this .tib files from windows explorer or restore them as files on host without recreating the entire VM.
