WHAT IS VALIDATED WHEN DOING INCREMENTAL BACKUPS?
I create incremental backups and perform a validated after each backup. Does the validation process validate just the most recent incremental or validate all the way back to the first full backup?
Thanks. . .John

Why can't you validate just those backups not previously validated? If you have already validated the first back up and the next 3 backups, why can't you just validate the next incremental backup without validating again the inital back up and all those preceding the most recent one?

Jim.
The point of validating is to provide confidence that the backup integrity has not been compromised. Since the backup is made of all the incrementals and the original full, validating the last incremental doesn't tell you much about the integrity of the backup.

The incs contain changed sectors. For the whole files you need the whole set.
