2 small restoring problems

Thread needs solution

Hi there.  Currently using TI09 on Vista Ultimate 32bit (hoping to upgrade to TI10).  Trying to restore an incremental backup and having 3 problems:

1. Sometimes when I restore files the files are being restored but with extra characters in the extension eg instead of "mydocument.doc" it is "mydocument.doc~8AGOO1OQ".  If I remove the extra characters the file is fine but obviously something is going wrong.

2. It seems my TI doesnt like to restore my large backup task in one go.  If I select it - the job takes about 1 minute, it says its completed succesfully but it has only done about 10% of the job and lots of the files have the funny extension (see above).

3. Not sure if this is related to the above but I am presuming that with an incremental backup I only need to restore/select the latest incremental backup job?  Just checking I don't need to select the full back up and then do the latest increment.

Any, and I mean any, help on the any of the above would be much appreciated.

Kind regards.

What build of TI 2009 are you using?

When you restore the files, are you doing it from Windows or from the TI CD?

Are you restoring files from an image backup or a files & folders (data-type) backup?

You only need to select the most current Incremental backup. You don't need to restore from the Full backup first.

Thanks for the response - by answers are below - I hope it helps...

I have used both the previous version and the latest available from the website.

I am doing it from Windows - is it better from the CD at boot?

Sorry I should have specified - it is a files/folder backup.

Thanks for this :)

You can try booting to the TI CD and restoring the files. I would restore them to an alternate location or do a test first to make sure it works before replacing the originals.

You can also try Exploring the backup file and copying the files out instead of restoring them.

Hi,

I have the same problem.
I have successfull restored an image backup and afterwards I tried to restore some files and
directories from an different files & folders backup.
I had no success to restore some of the files and folders when I tried to restore them to
original place or to a different place.
The symptoms are the same as described above.
Trying to restore to the same place, the files are doubled with extra characters at the end.

Does the restore after booting from TI CD helped?

Tataro,

It may restore differently from the TI CD. You would need to try it to find out.

Have you tried Exploring the backup and copying the files out? It's quicker and (usually) less problematic than doing a file restore.

Are you also using TI 2009 on Vista 32-bit? If not, please post what you are using (including the build of TI).
