Boot recovery CD, blank screen on new Dell XPS 8500 Ivy Bridge

Thread needs solution

I boot the recovery CD for a restoration test on my new Dell XPS 8500 i5 Ivy Bridge chipset. I get the normal Acronis screen to choose, Windows, Acronis System Report, Acronis True Image home. When I choose the Acronis True Home, the screen goes blank and I never see the linux system booting. The boot CD works fine on my old PC. I have download the latest boot cd from Acronis. I cannot currently use the boot cd to recover my backup if the need should arise. Any suggestions?

When you get to the selection screen, try pressing F11 (you may have to try it earlier in the boot process after the Acronis loader starts). If you get a prompt with QUIET in it (which is what we are trying to accomplish with the F11), remove QUIET and replace it with vga=ask and then continue. If this works as designed, you will see a screen that lists the vga modes your can select from, choose one that is equal to or less than your max resolution. A good choice is 1024 x 768 x 32. After entering the correct code for your resolution, the system will get to a prompt and stop. Type in /bin/product and press enter. This should start True Image. http://kb.acronis.com/content/2921
There could be other suggestions to try, but start with this one.

Hello Roger and James,

Thank you for your posts and thank you for your help James.

Roger, in addition to James' help I would recommend download the trial bootable media for True Image 2013 by Acronis from your Acronis web-account. You can get the trial serial number from here.

We also do not charge for recovery issue so if you need help with this, please contact our Support team.

Let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.
