I want a simle full backup once a week, no overwrite.
I help some non profit organizations with computer issues. Had them sit up running XP and TI2010 for some time, all was well. We did a full backup each Sat AM, adding date to file name, never overwriting the old backup. They did manual deletes via TI2010. Did not want diff or Inc backups.
They had to get new computer, went to Windows 7 and bought TI2012. I helped again getting everything sit up computer runs fine. Downloaded 2012 and the user interface was more different than I hoped (more different than TI2010). Still I sit it up to do a weekly, full backup on Sat AM and to add date on back of the backup file name.
They talked to me today, said it is backing up each Sat AM, but always overwrites the previous backup. I question that as I haven't been on their site to verify, but they seem sure. My question is, is there something in TI2012 that would automatically always overwrite the last backup that I am missing? I admit the interface was different than TI2010, I didn't have a manual to read and could have missed something. Seems TI keeps tweaking the user interface, I guess to make it look new??

Thanks for the reply. Within a week of getting them upgrade to 2012 I got an email Acronis released 2013, I doubt they can buy another version this soon.
They are using an external USB 2.0 1TB disk. I had them save one backup from the old computer in case I missed restoring some files to new computer. I think I understand why starting a new task is better than editing the old one. Not sure why a new folder. I never even made any folders on the external drive. It is just F:filename date.
But what I am thinking you mean is that if I make a new folder on external drive and new task, then Acronis and the new task will only use and monitor backups within the new folder I created and will ignore other .tib files on drive.
I want to add date after the backup file name (which will always be same), this looks the same as 2010.
I understand why I would need room for 5 even if I use 4 and this method would be better than a manual process of deleting old backups.
I understand why two externals would be better, but money is a factor. I even believe the backups should be taken off site in case of fire or theft.
I do a disk & partition but do not select sector by sector.

If your purchase was after July 27, 2013 and you paid full price, you qualify for a free update. You should pursue. Check this link.

Correct. It would only delete the old files based on what is inside the folder.
date can be added to file name as part of the file name creation using _@date@_ as shown in figure 8.
Perhaps you can convince the organization of the importance of an additional disk. Cost would be about $125 for a 2TB disk. I would not but any larger disk. A separate task for each disk. If you are starting with a new task anyway, suggest that you assign a drive letter like x or y or z to the storage disk and assign a different letter to a new disk if you get one. If the drive C does not have a volume name, suggest you assign one such as
Win7_C
so the correct system partition is more properly identified. The Recovery CD could list it with different letters as the CD is Linux so good identification is needed.
If you have not done so, suggest that you create a 2012 TrueImage bootable recovery CD and restore a few files to test your recovery method. Unless you have actually done some restores, you really do not know if the recovery process works.

Thanks I will post how things go later this week. No they won't get a free upgrade to TI2013 as they got a special price to upgrade to the TI2012 plus an additional free copy of TI2012. I actually was going to use their free copy, but doesn't seem to be a place to download TI2012.
Good idea on that recovery test, I did that for myself, need to do it for others. I just rename a file to old....... Then run a boot and recover the one file I renamed. If boot and access to external drive goes well, I feel much more comfortable. I use to get free Acronis software as I helped test, never did have trouble finding errors, but it looks like 2010 was the last time I did that testing. I am pushing 70, started in IT back in 1968, like to keep somewhat active with computers. Been retired now for almost ten years, not doing IT support daily makes a person a bit rusty.
Appreciate the help.

I worked on their system today and the external and internal drive have more meaningful names and the external is now drive letter Z: with a folder for the backups. Plenty of space for 5 full backup disk/partition backups, set the parm for 4 full backups.
What is weird is that things act just like your figure 8. Why in the world don't Acronis show the @date@ after the backup name (figure 8), it does in 2010. Actually in 2010 I can type in _@date@_@time@ after the file name and don't need to use the pulldown menu and it works fine. Also, in 2010 if I use the pulldown, it shows under backup name the @date @time@. But not in 2012, your figure 8 is accurate, but I think Acronis made in error in not showing the whole file name and parameters. I kept thinking it wasn't taking my @date@ and finely ran it to check and it was taking it just fine, just not showing in the setup name just like your figure 8 showed.
In 2010 you can get a list of scheduled jobs, unscheduled jobs and logs. Clear as a bell what ran, will won't run and what will run. I just don't see this in 2012 and not sure I deleted the old job, as you suggested I created a new job, I think I deleted the old job??? It wasn't clear like in 2010. Hope two jobs don't kick off at 1AM Sat.
Then if you can believe this, the CD they had for me to build a bootable had music on it, no writing on CD, but still had music. They didn't have any other CDs. Will test that next week, can't handle users anymore this week. Well I might recoup by tomorrow??
Is there anyway to download 2012, I have a valid number to enter, they never did use their second license. But maybe I am better off with 2010? I am very seriously considering going to 2013 and get my 3TB Seagate and a 3.0 USB controller. Then I got that new GPT or whatever it is that replaced MBR.

You are correct. The main GUI does not show that the date has been selected as part of the name assigned to the backup file.
In 2012, if you right click on edit settings of the backup task, there will be a delete option plus under another header, there is a "remove from backup list" option. Selecting the "remove from list" is the correct option if you only want the task removed so it will not run (or you can changed the schedule to "do not schedule" and the task will remain but never run.
If you choose the delete option from within the program to get rid of the task, YOU ARE ALSO DELETING ALL BACKUPS associated with that task. Be careful to make the correct choice.
If you have a 2010 license, you can pay the upgrade fee to get an updated 2013 license.
If you have a 2012 serial which has never been licensed, you can register the license number and that will allow you access to the download file and enable you to download the 2012 files.
If you do get a 2013 upgrade license, register the license number and that will enable access to the downloads.
You could also use the same download file from the organization but when installing, use the 2012 serial in your possession. If your 2012 serial is an upgrade, you will also need the main serial.
I hope you are enjoying your retirement. I will be 81 very soon and retired since 93. I am just a normal user who enjoys trying to keep up with the all the young geeks and I am falling behind with all this new hardware. If you do install 2012 or 2013, I would suggest your spend considerable time with the training guide plus those inside index item #3 inside my signature below.
Good luck. We are never too old to learn!

I must have got lucky, I did the right click and delete. However it didn't delete any backup files I wanted, not sure why, not sure it even deleted the task. Maybe it was one of the new tasks I deleted with its own folder, will have to check in a couple of days? I assume it wouldn't look outside of the folder for the task. Not sure now what happen, too much going on and people over my shoulder. I do know I did the delete and yes got a warning message and decided I didn't care that much if they got deleted, but they were still there. I will click on "more option" next time and then remove from list.
I signed on to Acronis and I have license for 2010, 2009, Acronic 11, Disk Director 10 and even TI 8. Thank goodness they have my serial numbers stored. yes I remember how they notice that you are doing an upgrade and ask for an original.
Yes we enjoy retirement, been doing lots of traveling and volunteering. Did lots of SCUBA diving prior to retiring in 2003, now I just like to take time and drive everywhere and see the sights- make no reservation. Well I had to for Yellowstone next year and Grand Canyon this year, but try not to schedule reservations. The only good scuba diving requires I fly and I am tired of airlines and the hassle. I understand why they do most of it, but also my choice to decline.
You do a great job, I have seen your post for years, you took to IT like a duck to water. Most of my career was with large mainframes, but toward the end did some supporting servers and networks for state of Kansas. Then if I mention to someone that my career was in computers, they automatically think PC and ask for help, they just don't understand there are more computers that what are in their homes.
Wow, 80 and a sharp mind, you keep going, you are a positive inspiration.
