System clean-up does not appear to be working correctly

Thread needs solution

I went to the Tools and Utilities and stated the 'System Clean-up' process. I get the screen stating
"Scan is Completed. There are 9,517 items found ....."

At this point it, the tree only shows "System Clean-up" and "System Components". If I try to do anything(expand the System Components or click to change settings nothing happens. After a little while the screen closes and all I have is the Tools and Utilities screen again.

I do see the Clean-up app in the Task Manager and then it goes away as well.

Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong with this.

Thanks,

Rich

Bump

I have exactly the same issue with TIH 2011.

Can someone from Acronis please respond? I have attached a screen print. It stays like this for a while then the window eventually closes without letting you do anything.

Hello Richard, hello Peter,

Thank you for posting your issue here.

From the technically point of view the best thing you can do is to disable the antivirus software, before starting that feature.

For Acronis True Image Home 2012, I found this article in our knowledge base.

Please make sure that you always use the latest build. If you are not using the latest build, please download the latest.

Make sure, that you are not using Microsoft Windows 7, as Acronis True Image Home 11 does support Vista at least.

In addition, you can try out the new True Image 2013 by Acronis and check if the issue persists.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Thank you for the response Peter.

I disabled my antivirus software but the problem still persists.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and I'm using ATIH 2011 Update 3 (build 6942).

I don't want to pay for an updrade just to fix this issue so please can you advise how to get it working on this version?

Thanks very much.

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your reply.

Please understand that only the current version will receive fixes. The version you are using is not the current version. So far, there is no fix available. Also, remember, that your version not certified to run with Windows 7. It runs at least with Windows Vista.

Please check out the new True Image 2013 by Acronis and see, that an upgrade for a single machine costs only 29,95 € (or 24,93 £).

If there is anything else, we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Thank you for the response, but I don't think it is correct.

I am using True Image Home 2011 (as stated above) not 11. 2011 is compatible with Windows 7 (all versions) according to the manual, and it came shipped with the machine when I bought it last year.

I'm still not happy about having to pay for an upgrade in order to fix a bug. Please can you offer a more suitable alternative please?

Peter A,

You could un-install 2011, download and run the 2011 cleanup utility, then re-install. Check to see if the issues are resolved. The 2011 cleanup utility can be found here: http://kb.acronis.com/content/14871 You can export your backup settings and import them back into 2011 once the re-install is complete. See the Tools and Utilites options to do so.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled as suggested, but the results are still the same, i.e. System Clean-Up doesn't work. Can you offer another alternative please?

Peter,
As you are using a version that is now 2 years old, you will probably not be able to resolve this issue as no new updates for your product are going to be made available and no support will be offered by Acronis for this version other than recovery issues. You can try using Windows tools to clean your system up some before trying the System Cleanup tool again. Use "cleanmgr.exe" to start with. Also check your disk for errors running "chkdsk X: /r" (x being you drive letter(s)). Also you could use "msconfig.exe" to start your system with fewer startup items and services (don't disble any Acronis items) to see if anything is conflicting with the System Cleanup tool.
