Home Edition 2012 Fails to run installer

Thread needs solution

I have disabled any anti-virus applications. I have rebooted several times.

The two files I have are:
ATIH2012_6131_en-US.exe
and
ATIH2012PP_6131_en-US.exe

These will NOT run at all the only thing I see is a black cmd window pop up for a split second. I have checked the task manager and the installer doesn't show up under applications.

I am running Windows XP pro 32bit. HELP! I need to clone my OS.

You should sign on to your Acronis account https://www.acronis.com/my/products/ and download the current version of 2012 (build 7133) along with the associated Plus Pack. You can also download an ISO file that can be used to create a CD or DVD bootable Rescue Disk that you can boot to and perform a backup, restore, or clone of your system. Be sure to download the ISO that is listed in the Plus Pack section of your "My Products" so that the Plus Pack is included on the bootable CD / DVD you create from the ISO. If you have not created an Acronis account, create one and then register your serial numbers to have access to the downloads.

After downloading the new versions of the installers to your system ("save" them do not "run" them from the internet), right-click on each one of the files and select "properties", then check to see if the file is "blocked". Click the "unblock" button to remove the blocks from each file. The try the installs again. If you still can not get the installer to run properly, download and run the 2012 "Cleanup Utility" from here http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545. Follow the instructions carefully if using this utility.

Thanks for the info James. It would have been nice to have that info stated in the install instructions, to prevent the installation failure chaos.

This removed all files left when uninstall failed.

The procedure to run from the internet, or run from the files saved locally, normally works without problems either way on most systems. Same goes for the "blocked" files. It usually is not necessary to remove the "block", as Windows will prompt you with a warning, stating that the file came from the internet (or other untrusted location), and Windows will ask your permission to run the file. When attempting to open/run the file, after answering "yes" to the warning prompt, Windows normally will remove the "block" from the file, and proceed to open/run the file as if the block were never present.

I posted this to help those who have had problems with the install.

My preference is always to save any file locally that I plan on opening/runnning/or installing on my system that I download from the internet, and to remove the "blocks" if present before attempting to open, run, or install the program.

Because these steps are not normally necessary for the proper installation of any program, this procedure is more of a troubleshooting step, then it is a "required" method, so is not addressed in the 2012 documentation.
It could be added to the troubleshooting section, though. :)
