[DUPLICATE] Filename issue
I have a very nice filename method that I have been using for a long, long time. It goes like this: 2012_0904_0556.tib. Ain't that dandy? I'll bet everybody here can figure out what that filename means!
I will decide what the filename is going to be when the Image is stored on my external hard drive. I do not use Incremental Backups. I only use Full Single Version Backups.

Tim,
To my knowledge the 'v','b' and 's' can't be removed, Acronis added that as a number of people had reported finding it difficult to know what image was what in an archive, mainly those who have multiple tasks.
This is an attempt to help those people not delete the wrong files amongst other reasons.

>It can be removed; I did it<
could you please tell me how you did it?

krabbe,
I think he is referring to renaming the files manually after creation. I don't believe that the default naming scheme implemented in 2013 can be changed.

That's correct. I just manually renamed the file after its creation. A terrible inconvenience that I hope I don't have to do forever. It's a real shame because the program runs so well on my Win7 x64 machine. However, this stupid website doesn't work too well. Look at the quotes.

I agree with you 100 percent!! I have a backup naming scheme I use - and to add the "extraneous" characters at the end makes it (my scheme) unusable. The naming convention - while it might be useful in some instances - should be an installation option, and allow the user to use or not use it.
The user *should* have the option to determine the file name.

Whilst the date in the filename is self explanatory to a point, the thing to remember is, some people will have many tasks and possibly as many different configurations of a task, so, the date naming will fail to some extent if consolidation is used or a complicated chain task is implemented. In these forums one thing that has caused some consternation is when a defrag of the system causes a new image to be made that is roughly the same size as a full. In this case the new naming system at least gives someone a pointer to where in an archive this file actually fits.
Whilst I agree it is nice to have customisable options, it is possible to have too many choices which end up confusing all but a few.

Colin, when you say "it is possible to have too many choices which end up confusing all but a few"...
From what I see there are NO choices at all...

I also just do Full backups, and like to name them as I please, not leave the "cryptic" name ATI puts there. I also put them in my own NAMED folder, not MyBackups. I name the folder with the date its made and I include a wordpad file (that right, I said WORDPAD, not WORD.....dont get me started on WORD) in the folder to list notes about that particular tib, such as WHICH computer it was made on, as I have more than one. That said, I dont consider it too much of a HASSLE to just rename them.

Tim767, I agree with you 100 percent on the backup naming conventions - it's enough to make you want to not use it. I'm putting together a post of some major "inconsistencies" in the way that works, hopefully I'll get it posted in the next couple days.

We have a special sticky thread for feedback, you can find it here.
Please note that it is difficult to search through threads that have all the issues in one place and we would appreciate if you could create different posts for each issue or post in existing threads that discuss the same problem.
Thank you.
