Cloning non-Windows disk

Thread needs solution

Can TI 2011 (either the Windows program or the bootable/stand-alone version) clone a non-Windows disk, in particular, a disk with a Linux-based OS on it? If not, can TI 2012 or TI 2013 do it? Thanks, Joe

Welcome Joe,

Acronis True Image Home 2011 supports the following file systems:

FAT16/32
NTFS
Ext2/Ext3/Ext4*
ReiserFS*
Linux SWAP*
*The Ext2/Ext3/Ext4, ReiserFS, and Linux SWAP file systems are supported only for disk or partition backup/recovery operations. You cannot use Acronis True Image Home for file-level operations with these file systems (file backup, recovery, search, as well as image mounting and file recovering from images), as well as for backups to disks or partitions with these file systems.

(!) exFAT is not supported.

More information
If a file system is not supported or is corrupted, Acronis True Image Home 2011 can copy data using a sector-by-sector approach.

2012 & 2013 supports as follows:
FAT16/32
NTFS
Ext2/Ext3/Ext4 *
ReiserFS *
Linux SWAP *
If a file system is not supported or is corrupted, True Image 2013 can copy data using a sector-by-sector approach. * The Ext2/Ext3/Ext4, ReiserFS, and Linux SWAP file systems are supported only for disk or partition backup/recovery operations. You cannot use True Image 2013 for file-level operations with these file systems (file backup, recovery, search, as well as image mounting and file recovering from images). You also cannot perform backups to disks or partitions with these file systems.

Thanks for the quick reply - much appreciated! I'm asking because I'd like to clone the (probably failing) hard drive on a TiVo. After posting my question, I found an interesting thread here specifically about cloning a TiVo drive (#11389, 2010-06-08). Seems that Host Protected Areas (HPAs) are problematic for cloning software like TI, unless the capabilities of TI have changed in the two years since that post. Regards, Joe
