Backup versions after restore

Thread needs solution

I make full backups of my system drive, with a maximum of 3 saved. To date, there were already 3 full versions.

Had to restore my failed system with the last backup, which was successful.

Yesterday, after updating all lost data, I opened Acronis again and clicked on backup system drive. The operation failed, as it told me that the backup did not exist. In the help file it said somewhere that I could edit the backup, which I did.

This however, resulted in a new version, where the last of the old one was not deleted, of course. This I had to do manually afterwards.

How should I do this correctly, if this happens again?

Whenever you do a full system restore that contains the Acronis installtion, the Acronis database that tracks the backup files you have created will not match the current backup files since your restored an older database. The best solution in this case is to remove (not delete) the old task (not the backup files), move the backup files you wish to keep, and then create a new task. After the new task has successfully created a new backup file, you could then delete the older backup files you had moved it they are no longer needed.

Hi James,

thank you for the reply. It makes sense, but perhaps the database should recognise that several versions of backup already exist. I had actually taken the steps suggested by you, but left 2 of the older versions. At the next scheduled backup, will delete another old one..

Strange, I had marked the post with "Notify me when new comments are posted", but have not received any notification

You may find that some of the backup files will not be deleted automatically and have to be manually deleted if they are not tracked by the older restored database.

Sometimes the notifications take quite a while to come through. Be sure to check to see if they are being caught by any SPAM filters, etc.

Hi James,

thank you for clarifying this. Had no problem receiving your last reply

Thank you again for your help
