Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 - Dual External Drives

Thread needs solution

A number of my customers use ATI and two external drives (rotated so that one is in-office and one is away from the office). I've upgraded one customer to the new Acronis Backup & Recovery, and have created a backup job, etc. but am having problems with the two drives.
I can set up a vault on one drive, but what happens with the second drive? AB&R chokes when the second drive is used. It says it can't find the path to the backup.

How can I use AB&R with two external drives so that my customers can swap the drives and still have the backups complete successfully (regardless of which drive is connected at the time) ??

Thanks

I,m using TI home 2009 and am using multiple external drives. All drives are intentionally pre- lettered the same and Acronis will place a new full backup on whichever is connected. Acronis will note the switch but will put a new full backup on it.

I have it set up to do an incremental backup each day, but when I swap drives, the backup job won't run on the second drive.

I haven't used TI Home 2009 before...does it have Vaults like AB&R10?
I wonder if I chose full backups instead of incremental backups, if that would work?

I have not used your version of the software but could you not have a task for each external drive. This should enable you to have incrementals for each task but it would mean you have a full backup on each external but this could be separated by a few days so the full did not occur every day.

Cam,
When working with external drives, MudCrab's DrvNotify program is really great for reminding the user that a drive must be attached and even a reminder as to which drive should be attached.

Check my signature link. DrvNotify is available in both a free and a purchased version. I liked the program well enough that I bought mine and I like its features.

Cam, you may want to read http://forum.acronis.com/forum/3010

You may not like the answers though. This new version of the software
does not accommodate changing external backup drives. Once you
change the drive you are out of luck as the vault will never be the same
across multiple media.

Acronis does not comment whatsoever on this design flaw either.

Sorry!

Yah, I was reading that. It's a typical backup scheme for so many of my customers: one server, acronis software, and two rotating external backup drives. If this new software doesn't do that, then I will end up looking for an alternative brand. And that's too bad because I've been very happy with Acronis for years now.

If they would at least acknowledge the issue and state their position, then people like me could hang on and wait for the solution. But if they don't, we're left to assume they don't care or won't address the situation, and so we'll look elsewhere.

Hey Cam, There was a recent response on that other thread from Acronis - finally. Also read my reply to it. We can only wait and see...
