Failed Mobo, bought a new one+ i7 + SSds: what now?
I have what you would consider an old mobo (ABIT AB9 QUADGT) which is dead now, luckily I have a neighbour with the same mobo and I managed to connect my two Raptor 150GB to his and it recognized the Raid 0 array, then I proceeded to back up the whole 300GB into an external 2TB hard drive. It took nearly 3 hours (using a trial True Image 2013)and I did it sector by sector. It's showing as 279GB worth of data.
My new Asus mobo arrived today with a new i7 processor, 32GB memory, and two 120GB SSDs which will be configured in Raid 0.
Upon reading the instructions I realised that inorder to migrate the whole lot into my new hardware I need the Acronis Plus Pack which I bought yesterday as well as the full True image.
I am writing this from my laptop, so my question is:
Do I have to start all over again using the plus pack?
Where do I install the software? Do i have to bother my neighbour again using his Mobo?
Seeing the size of the current back-up (279GB) is bigger than the two SSDs (120GB each) or (240GB in Raid 0) do I avoid the "sector by sector" back up and just do "C" plus "reserved"??
Do I have to download and install the software (true Image + Pack) into my current pair of hard drives WD Raptors(using my neighbour's pc) , and seeing I will be using SSds in future what happens to my installed Acronis software? Can I migrate it to my new PC??
Can I boot straight from my external hard drive (NTFS) inorder to proceed with True Image recovery + migrating all my Windows7 Ultimate, programs etc....or do I have to create a DVD/ CD boot?
Sorry so many questions, so little time. I appreciate your help

tuttle wrote:People, please stop backing up sector-by-sector. It is unnecessary. All it does it increase the time used for the backup and significantly increase the backup size, with no benefit.
Re. moving to new SSD: the relevant question is the space used on the old HD, not the total size. If size in use is less than the size of the new SSD, you can restore.
Plus Pack is really to create a WindowsPE-based bootable Recovvery Media. The purpose is so that you can inject Windwows drivers for hardware that is not supported in the standard Linux-based bootable Recovvery Media. If the standard Linux-based bootable Recovvery Media can recognize your hardware, backup and restore, then you don't need Plus Pack.
You don't install the software to restore to a new HD or SSD. Boot from the bootable Recovvery Media (CD/DVD or USB flash drive) and restore from there.
To permanently "move" Acronis True Image from one PC to another, you can deauthorize the old installation and then authorize at the new installation.
Ok point taken re.(sector by sector) and thanks for your reply:
So I have to go back to my neighbour and use his PC to read my RAID0 array and back up using acronis True image.
I have a 2TB external hard drive (NTFS)on which to back up my drives, can I use it as a bootable recovery media? This is where I am confused.
Can I get a refund on the plus pack if I don't need it after all?
Many thanks for your help and patience/.

You cannot normally boot from an external USB HD. The bootable Recovery Media or Rescue Media is, as I already wrote, CD/DVD or USB flash drive. You can create it from within the Acronis True Image Windows application, or you may download a Recovery Media ISO from your Acronis account, which you may then burn to CD/DVD.

All done successfully thanks to the help I received on here.As it turned out True Image 2013 did recognise the new hardware (except my newly built RAID0 ) which I only found by going through the Add new drive tab. After that it all went through fine and I am amazed how everything got put exactly where it was in my old PC. I did not need to do aything else except reactivate Windows 7 Ultimate on my new hardware.
I have sent an email to Acronis asking them to refund me for the PLUS PACK as I never used it nor did I need it, do you think I stand a chance with that??
I think they should make it clear to use Acronis True Image 2013 FIRST if you plan to change hardware, then if it does not work purchase the PLUS PACK. If it was not for Tuttle's advice here I would have never known that in the first place. Many thanks again Tuttle mate.
Regards.
