Cannot Select keep first version of the backup
I am using the latest build 5551 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Do not delete first version of the backup is not selectable after the first backup is run.
The only way to select it is to remove all versions of the backup and re-schedule.
When do not delete first version of the backup is selected, does that keep the first whole version chain or only the first full backup?

I did a 2 test backups with "Do not delete the first version" selected.
It worked as you described made two full backups.
When I clicked "Delete" to delete the scheduled test backup, the message stated "delete all versions of the backup?"
All versions were deleted including the first version.
I will do this a different way, I will copy the first backup to a different folder on my PC.

Note: Hopefully the next update to 2013 will include the option to identify which files will be deleted prior to the actual deletion so you will be able to identify or cancel the proposed deletion.
As to your problem of excess deletion:
There is a different method of controlling deletion of backups. Using this method, you can selectively delete single slices.
Inside the task, Right Click on the Recover Button.
Click on the Recover files option.
All backup slices will be listed along the bottom row.
Hover your mouse pointer over each slice to help identify the specific backup.
Once you have the specific slice selected and highlighted, you can Right click and choose the delete option and only the slice highlighted will be deleted.
