Failed restore removed my backup files and my partition got unallocated

Thread needs solution

Using ATIH 2009. Wanted to clean my computer by restoring to old backup. It failed and removed the backup files in the Acronis area. No big problem since I also backed it up on external HDD, but the big problem is that the partition that I want to restore is removed and now showing up as "unallocated". In other words, I have lost my partition that I want to restore to and there seems to be no way to activate this partition. What to do?

You don't need to have anything prepared on the disk to restore a disk and partition backup, but you need a partition to restore to if you restore a file backup.

Do the restore process through the recovery CD. Remember that the recovery will assign drive letters that are typically different from the ones Windows assigns. Partitions labels don't change. Pay extra attention to disk characteristics or partition labels to make sure you select the right disk.
