MANUAL CONTROL OF NONSTOP BACKUP
I have been looking for solution to the problems I faced with Nonstop backup enabling me to start and stop when the computer is free of other CPU load. I found the following information in the knowledge base.
"How to pause Acronis Nonstop Backup? - You can pause Nonstop Backup by clicking the gear icon on the Nonstop Backup box and selecting Stop in the menu. To resume Nonstop Backup, click the gear icon again and select Start in the menu. If the Nonstop Backup box is expanded, you can also pause and resume Nonstop Backup by clicking the corresponding buttons in the box."
I was so glad that I found the solution but to my disaapointment this is just not true. Please see the enclosed screen capture. On clicking the gear icon I did not find any stop/start option.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks.

Krishen,
Once the backup is started, let it go. I am surprised there is no cancel button. But canceling is different from stop/running the task. When you start NSB, it will first do a complete backup, then the task takes snapshots of changes, accumulate them during the day and wait to consolidate them later.
You can kill the process if you want to stop the first complete backup, but you will lose the backup. If you do that, delete the task, recreate it, and restart it when you ready for the first backup.

I can confirm that the start/stop buttons do not appear during the stage shown in Krishen's nsb_23oct12.jpg file. I would recommend posting a screen shot of the log file, especially any showing indications of errors.

Yes, I trust that the button is not there during the initial backup, but I sill find it surprising. THis is (probably) a UI anomaly, but not a sign that NSB is behaving badly.

I agree the missing button is merely a UI anomaly. It does reappear when NSB completes the initial backup. I did not mean to imply that NSB is behaving badly. If NSB stops (as in a case that I am pursuing with Acronis support), the log file may contain useful information about this. Krishen's first screen shot leads me to believe NSB had stopped, and there may be something more going on. Note the last backup version time in the screen shot. It certainly may be okay depending on how often NSB disk data is modified.

Thanks all for keen interest. I enclose log file as suggested but there seems to be no error. As aptly said the start and stop buttons did appear after the backup was completed and I have successfully used to start and stop the NSB.
Kind regards

I have not been able to post a new question and apologise for this.
The new problem is:
I installed a new version of Acronis 2013 on Windows 8 64 bit machine-Acer S7-391 ultrabook.
I activated Recovery Manager and when the computer started screen appeared to press F11 and the computer froze. I pressed F11 and the computer screen that appeared has only dots and lines of varying colours and would not go.
The computer died after tha battery got discharged.
Thanks for help
