true image 2013 system state backup
I'm ready to buy the 2013 version. System State backups is my most common task but on 2013 I do not see any option to do a system state backup.
Why am I missing this or has it been removed from True Image?

Acronis True Image doesn't do system state backups (essentially a backup of the registry or registry keys plus some various settings).
That was present in 2010, but was removed.
As a first line of defense you can use Windows System Protection, but it won't protect you much.

wow, what a pity. I guess I won't be buying the 2013 version. I can tell you first hand that the system state backups have saved me so many times when some crazy odd thing would happen to the windows installation that hours of troubleshooting can't fit. The right system state restoral would bring back a screwed windows setup and save me the dreaded new install and the 10 hours it takes to get back to where I was.
Thanks for the info, what a shame!

I just got a new computer (win7). I had win7 on my old computer running Acronis TIH 10. I can't get it to install on my new computer. Any ideas? I am now running a trial version of 2013. I mostly used system state backup, as I was not tech minded, and just wanted something to reinstall the whole computer. If 2013 won't do it, then why should I buy it?

Robert,
If by TIH 10 you do mean 10 and not 2010, then TIH 10 is not Windows savvy so won't install on W7. I assume you had a W7 upgrade from XP which would explain how you were able to have TIH 10 on a W7 system.
As far as 2013 is concerned, your best option is a complete disk image, this will recover your complete system as it was at the moment you imaged it.

A full disk backup, or even an OS partition backup, will do all that and more. You can restore a backup to your existing drive, or even to a brand new drive (such as after your current drive fails) and you'd be back to the exact state you were before the disaster, no reinstallation required.

Tuttle has a good point and I want to clarify also:
System state backup is different from image backup.
To restore a screwed-up system or to replace a dead disk, you'd need an image backup. That is by far the best protection you can have.
Personally, I never rely on Windows system protection, and I would not rely on a system state backup. It is only me...

Pat, I had TI 10 working on windows 7 and it worked for a long time, then for some reason it just would crash on loading so after many retries to reinstall it with the same results I downloaded 2013. I've got to be frank with you I've tried all the backup systems and while True Image is among what I consider the most problematic, it's just so much more complete than the others. One way or another you can do almost anything with it. The others (less automatic but more solid possibly) force me to think in terms of mostly a whole backup or a whole restore and all of them .. every one I've used will do a restoral then leave you with a non bootable system. Now I must admit I use Raid a lot n my systems so it complicates the whole process so no doubt I'll have more restoral issues than anybody but the most flexiable of all systems is True Image. I'm so disappointed that 2013 leaves out system image backups as frankly 99% of my my problems are corruption with windows settings and/files and that always saved me. When you get a perfectly working system i generally do a full acronis backup then a system state but almost always I can fix any problem by just restoring the system state. For me it's a huge deal. I'm going to try and salvage my TI 10 and remove the 2013 demo. I like the new features on 2013 but don't really care for the interface. I was really hoping that 2013 would be 2010 but the big daddy version but it's not. Maybe down the road they will make a 2010 style setup with the additional features but until then I need to try and see what is stopping my 2010 from working now on windows 7.
Good luck!
