In services.msc the status of Windows Installer is an empty field and startup type is Manual. When I start windows installer (with right click "start") I get the message "Installer is started and then stopped because some services stop automatically if they have nothing to do." I've changed the startup type to automatic but everything remains the same. It is still not possible to install True Image 2013.

JMD,
I think you might have a problem with any program that uses the Windows MSI installer if it isn't showing up in Services.
You should also check that the RPC service is running as Windows Installer relies on this as does True Image.
Your entry should look like this.

Colin B,
The status of RPC service is started and automatic. Windows installer depends on RPC service that is listed in the properties. Everything seems OK in services.msc but I still get the same error when I try to install True Image. I don't know what to do. I have a lot of software installed and never had any problems.
Regards, JMD

3 weeks ago my installer has installed an SSD in my computer and reinstalled windows xp professional. I also have my own software reinstalled and everything worked very well. Before de SSD I used Norton Ghost and never had problems. On the advice of my installer I bought Acronis True Image 2013. Now I have all this problems. According to the solution of the link in Annex I must reinstall Windows. I needed much time to reinstall all my software and do not want to do it again. I think to use Norton Ghost now because I have now solution.

JMD,
With Windows XP you can perform a Windows Repair installation, so long as you have the Windows installer CD.
Have you had a previous version of True Image installed before?
What is the exact error message you get?
Can you provide a screen shot of this error message?

Colin B,
I have no previous version because this week I've bought True Image online and 2013 is the newest.
See file attached with screenshots while I install. The last page and other file attached is the error log.

I can't look at your installer log at the moment, it will have to wait until I get home.
In the meantime, there are two things to try.
1. Extract the MSI True Image installer and try installing directly. To extract the installer run the TIH installer until the menu screen, right click on 'Install' and select 'extract'.
2. Redownload TIH from your account in case something is corrupted.
Have you tried installing the suggested file in the link in the post above which uses the MSI installer service just to check this is OK?
If the installer runs OK with the Microsoft file, I am wondering if perhaps there is a registry that is denying the TIH installer access.

I tried to install directly the MSI TI installer with extract after the menu screen. It gives the same error.
I redownloaded the latest build 5551 but no solution.
I do not understand what suggested file in post you main.
Can you give the correct link please ?

From the Microsoft knowledge base.
If the above steps don’t solve the issue, then you may try downloading the latest version of Windows Installer and install it from Clean boot.

We need to pinpoint whether your MSI installer/system has the problem. or True Image.

I had already installed MSI 4.5 but in normal startup mode. Now, I have deleted MSI as explained in the Windows support and then reinstalled from clean boat. Everything remains the same. I have the same error message. I still can not install TI 2013.
I worked with the following auxiliary :
To delete MSI : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346
To startup in clean boat : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
I reinstalled MSI 4.5 for windows xp (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe)

JMD,
Have you tried running the Windows sytem File Checker from Windows Run off of the start button- sfc /scannow
What caused the Windows Installer to fail the first time around, or was it only when you tried to install TIH that it failed?
- Log in to post comments
Yes, I have run sfc /scannow and there were no errors. After minutes scanning the window closed without notifications.
I reinstalled MSI 4.5 without problems. It was the same error message while installing TI 2013 as in the beginning. (No access to WI ...)

JMD,
I'm a little late posting on this issue, but have you checked to make sure the installation file is "unblocked". Do this by right-clicking the .exe installation file and selecting properties, then check to see if the file is being blocked by Windows. If so, unblock it and try the install again.
Also be sure to clean out your user profile temp folders of any files and folders that are present there.
Be sure to turn on viewing of hidden and system protected files, then issue the following command to open your temp folder:
click Start->Run
type in "%temp%" (without the quotes) and press enter.
Delete everything you can, then close the Explorer windows and try the install again.

I deleted all the possible temp files as you said. The exe-file is not blocked, only marked as archive. The installation still does not work after these checks.

Please check your registry for "disabled sessions"
Open the Start Menu and click "Run."
Type "regedit" and press "Enter."
Open the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions"
Delete the contents except for "(Default)."

See the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Tool information here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.08.utilityspotlight.as…
The tool is still available, (but not from Microsoft) here: http://www.filecluster.com/download-link-4/129938.html

I have not this registry key.
See file attached with screenshot.

JMD,
Have you checked to see if McAffee is preventing the installer from running?
- Log in to post comments
MSI has full access in McAffee. I had previously tested and turned off McAffee to install TI2013 but was no solution.

The problem is solved.
The Windows installer did not work in Windows XP and the main problem was a lack of cooperation between Windows XP and the new SSD. This is the remark of my installer. This is probably correct because now I've got Windows 7 and everything works very well. I could install True Image without problems.
Thanks for your assistance!
