Partition Changed
Hi Folks,
i am going made.
I have installed Windows 7 and trying to make a backup with Acronis True Image 2013 or 2012,
but i have noticed in both versions that the partitions are with different letters.
I mean:
I've installend Windows 7 on the DriveC: thatit is a RAID 5 Disk of 3 TB.
When i boot from the Acronis CD to make the first Backup,
When i get into the second screen" Partitions to Backp", i see that the C drive insted to be C: it is F:
While the C drive of 3TB becomes G.
Why this.
Am i doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance
Enzo

Attached is what i see when i try to make a backup
i need to make a backup of the C drive that is 1.9TB
while how you see, by default, is checked, yes the Drive C, but it
is just abt 1TB.
How to avoid the problem?
Thanks

I explained this, and I advised you to do something which you've not said you have done. Until you do it, you may still have difficulty recognizing your drives.
To be safe when restoring, you need to be able to idenfify all drives/partitions.

ik8ozv,
I don't think the Linux based Acronis Rescue Media (boot disk) is seeing your RAID array properly.
Can you post a screen capture of your Windows Disk Management screen?
Not all RAID controllers are supported in the Linux based version of the True Image Home Rescue Media. You may have to use (purchase) the Plus Pack and create WinPE based Acronis Rescue Media to be able to "see' (backup and restore) your RAID properly.

The first drive shown in the selection list is 1.8 TB, lwhich could be the 1.9 TB drive he mentioned.

Here attached is the picture of how appears in the Windows Disk Management.

In Windows Explorer, right-click a drive/partition and select Rename. Give it a unique, identifiable name.
For instance, if your C: drive is your OS drive, you could name it: "C OS".

It is ok also if i just call it "IK8OZV" or i need to call it how you suggested me?
After that what to do?
Try to Backup?
Thanks

It's just a name, just a label. It affects no functionality. You can name it whatever you like.
Name all your drives.
Then try the bootable Recovery Media again, and use the names to identify your drives.

ik8ozv,
Just like Tuttle explained, assigning partition labels will help find the right disk/partition when you use the recovery CD, *because* you cannot rely only the drive letters.
When you navigate disks/partitions, select disk/partitions to find backups or do designate a destination, use the labels.
In particular, when you restore the C:\ partition, you will have to select the "ik8ozv" labelled partition (provided that is the label you gave to C:\ in Windows. ATI will ask you for the destination, and you will have to select "ik8ozv" on the recovery CD which might have the D:\ letter now. ATI will propose you, among other things, to change the drive letter during restoration. DO NOT do that.

Ok,
i have tried renaming all the drivers giving them as label the assigneed drive letter.
i mean the drive C is labelled as "C" the D one as "D" and the E one as "E".
Now trying to Backup the one i've labelled as "C" but the ATI see it as "E".
Now it is backing up but strange, it says that it takeas more then 2 hours.
Do not know f it is normal or not.
Thanks

C is your 2TB disk correct?
Linux can be slower than Windows, it also depends on your USB hub (in the PC) and your USB external drive. Two hours is longer than I would expect, but at this stage I would let it run, then from within Windows validate the image.

Yes C is My 2TB disk.
I am not using any external drive to make a backup because i am also noticing
something strange for me. I am using the E Drive to save the backup, because how i said before,
i am noticing something strange and i posted the issue in a different topic but nobody has answered me,
What i have noticed is:
I cannot make a backup on just one DVD DL.
If i make the Backup on an external HD, i do not get any problem and the size is about 6GB.
The DVD DL has a capacity of 8,5GB, but when i try to make the Backup, Acronis ask me for a first media and that let me think that i need more then one DVD.
I have also tried with the previous version of Acronis TIB and have the same results.
Why this?
Thanks
Colin Followed your suggestion:
I've let the Backup going on for more then 2 hours.
At the end i went into RECOVERY, Choosed the Backup file made before.
Rigth click with the mouse on the file and selected the Validate Archive option.
At about a quarte way i get the error:
THE ARCHIVE IS CORRUPTED.
What to do?
Thanks

Enzo,
How much used space is there on your hard drive?
Did you use normal compression?
Does the archive validate?
I think you should try making the image from within Windows the drivers used in Windows should be much quicker. Once you have made the image validate by using the recovery CD. Validation will take about 1.5 - 2 times as long as making the image. If it validates OK then all is OK.
You mentioned RAID, I'm wondering if the recovery environment can see the RAID correctly.
As for the DVD DL I think someone else reported that problem and I'm not sure if they solved it. Personally I wouldn't recommend making images to a DVD as they are more likely to be unreadable if the DVD Rom starts to play up and of course you can't make incremental images only full ones. Perhaps one as a master copy is the way to go.

Colin,
On Which drive?
On the C drive that has a capacity of 1.9TB i have 24.42GB of Used Space.
On the E drive that has a capacity of 298.1GB i have 211.6GB of Used Space.
For Normal Compression where to select it.I do not move any settings on the ATI.
How i said for the validate i get THE ARCHIVE IS CORRUPTED, so i think the Validate has failed.
How to make the image from within Windows?
Yes it is a RAID5 made with 3 HD of 1TB each and on it is installed the O.S and it is the one i want to Backup.
On theold PC i had i remeber that i had the same HW configuration and could make the Backu witout problema wit ATI 2012
and on just 1 DVD Dual Layer. I had to change the PC because had a MB Failure.
I do not need to make incremental backup.
I need to make a backup just with the O.S. and drivers because i am using Registered programs that works with the HW fingerprint.
Thanks
Enzo
