True Image 2013 on Samsung ATIV SmartPC 500 Install causing BSOD
When attempting to install True Image 2013 on Samsung ATIV SmartPC 500 I get a BSOD. It is a Windows 8 32-bit tablet (not RT). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
I am having exactly the same problem with my True Image 2013 and the Samsung Ativ 500T SmartPC.
I get a nice bluescreen during the first quarter of the installation. It is caused by tdrpman.sys .
My guess: True Image 2013 does not support this new Windows 8 hardware! Especially the harddrive is pretty unusual as it does not use SATA but some kind of SD + controller.
This problem will affect every single windows 8 tablet buyer (Intel Clover Trail tablets and obviously not ARM tablet users).
Also challenging: The new Windows 8 secure boot which seems to prevent running the True Image Boot CD.
Lots of work for acronis and I hope they will actually work on that. Tablets will take over the market quit quickly...
Cheers,
Felix

News from my side - I finally could install TI2013 on my Samsung Ativ 500!
Crazy enough the trick was to disable automatic activation + ACTIVATE my Gdata Anti Virus!
With Gdata Antivirus disabled it always crashed during install.
Never saw such a behavior as it usually is the opposite :)
Still doesn't solve the problem with not being able to boot from TI USB on this Intel Clover Trail based tablet.

You will have to disable secure boot and UEFI boot in the BIOS settings, and enable legacy boot or whatever the equivalent, to be able to boot on the recovery medium.

Thanks for all your help!
I tried a few more scenarios and I could finally select the True Image 2013 USB boot stick within BIOS.
But when selecting = booting from it I only see a blue (not a "blue screen") screen for 1 second and then the last BIOS page again. Switching off Secure Boot doesn't help.
Attached you find 3 screen-shots:
- The few BIOS options I have on my Samsung Ativ 500T
- The selectable USB boot device with Acronis True Image 2013
- The blue screen which appears for 1 second after selecting to boot from the TI2013 usb stick
I also tried Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Big disaster :) Process Page Lock BSOD Blue Screen comes up when booting into Windows 8 (error code STOP 0x00000076: PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGE). Luckily I could use a recent Windows 8 restore point to make the system boot again.
To summarize: Right now no option at all to recover a TI 2013 backup on Windows 8 tablets (specifically Samsung Ativ 500T). I am using Windows 8 full image backup now which works fine. Even the boot into its recovery USB stick!
Cheers,
Felix

I'm also experiencing problems with my HP Spectre XT 13-2100 series UltraBook!
Image 2013 works within Windows 8 (64), but I cannot boot with a Flash drive recovery media; you may wish to read comments!

@FelixAC,
I see you have Secure Boot enabled, currently you need to disable this to allow Linux to boot your tablet. You will not be able to use the ASRM until Acronis can update their Linux kernel to understand the W8 secure booting system, nor will you be able to start a recovery from within Windows (of a system drive).
A Windows PE 4 version of the recovery media ought to work as that uses Windows drivers, however to make that you will either need to purchase the Plus Pack or take a look at Mustang's PE environment builder - either way you will also need to download the Microsoft ADK to allow a PE version to be made.

Hi Colin,
thanks heaps for your help! That was very helpful. I was under the impression that TI2013 is already 100% Win8 ready and so the Acronis Linux Kernel is already modified to work with W8 secure boot.
The problem I have is that if I turn off secure boot in bios then it doesn't change things for me. Booting into Linux still doesn't work. I guess this could also be BIOS related (Samsung) and so I am in contact with them too.
Thanks for the idea regarding WinPE4! As I have purchased Plus Pack I will try that solution out very soon. Never did that before (as Linux boot always worked for me).

The problem was that no Secure Boot products (as far as I know) were available to 3rd party software developers apart form those directly involved with OEM systems, so it does work OK on a system that does not use the Secure Boot which is the new way of Microsoft tying serial numbers to OEM PC's.
Does your Samsung BIOS also have the ability to revert UEFI to Legacy mode, on some systems this is labelled CM?

Hi Colin,
thanks again. Yeah that makes sense regarding no secure boot products available to 3rd pary devs.
Thats exactly my problem: The Samsung Ativ 500T BIOS does not offer some kind of a legacy mode - at least I dont find it. There only is the option to switch off secure boot. Doing so does not change anything: Win8 boots perfectly fine but bootable USB drive still dont want to boot.
I am annoying Samsung support right now about that issue and I seriously hope that they fix that asap.
For now I will try to create a WinPE TI2013 boot USB stick and see how that goes.
Cheers,
Felix

Tried the WinPE 3.0 + TI2013 approach: Works fine on my Fujitsu T901 Windows 8 laptop. Does not work on my Samsung Ativ 500T Windows 8 device. Can select the USB stick in BIOS but only see a blue screen (not a "blue screen") for 1 sec and then get back to BIOS.
Must be a problem which Samsung is responsible for. This device cannot boot in any USB device... Very bad.

Feedback from Acronis support:
It is like it is - due to Secure boot no linux distribution will boot with secure boot activated in BIOS. They recommend WinPE solution which can be created if you own Plus Pack.

Finally! I could make a bootable USB stick for my Acronis True Image 2013! This enables me to reinstall, restore, etc. my system whenever I want. Yesss. Wasn't that hard though.
Follow this great step-by-step tutorial and you will have a bootable Acronis True Image 2013 USB stick for backup & restore outside of windows (on a fresh, dead, whatever machine): http://stealthfield.wordpress.com/2012/09/06/create-winpe-4-0-acronis-t…
Some Samsung ATIV 500T Windows 8 tablet specific notes:
- I tested this solution: works perfectly fine! It takes you about 30mins the first time.
- You'll need Acronis Plus Pack for creating the WinPE stick
- The machine automatically boots into the WinPE 4.0 Acronis TI2013 stick when it is plugged in. You do not need to select anything.
- It will not work with WinPE 3.0 even if Acronis says so. They dont seem to have a very good clue about the new secure boot stuff.
This only works with x86 systems (!) as Acronis didnt manage it to offer a x64 compatible version of its WinPE plugin (!). Luckily these Windows 8 tablets are usually x86. - USB boot works on the Samsung Ativ 500T but its BIOS is simply NOT accepting any non-windows systems / boot sticks because the BIOS doesn't offer a Secure Boot legacy option like every other recent BIOS does. Thats the big joke here and the reason for all our problems. I am quite sure that they do that for purpose (windows 8 license) and it still is very disappointing.
- These kind of problems should affect every recent / upcoming Windows 8 tablet if my guess is correct about the reason being licensing issues.
Problems to fix for Acronis engineering team:
- "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" kills the whole machine (Win8, x86, Samsung Ativ 500T, preinstalled). Bluescreen "error code STOP 0x00000076: PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGE". Only a system restore point makes the machine to boot again. This is 100% due to the EFI BIOS / Windows / partition. As the Acronis WinPE solution works perfectly fine this specific feature must be worked on / fixed.
- If Acronis cannot make the TI2013 USB boot stick work with modern Windows 8 installations (including secure boot) they should offer the WinPE solution for free and if possible ship a ready made WinPE 4.0 image including TI2013
- Acronis must work on a x64 version of its WinPE plugin. Currently the plugin only works on x86 Windows 8 installations. If you try to boot a x86 WinPE TI 2013 USB stick in a Windows 8 x64 environment it will not work (EFI, secure boot)
- WinPE 3.0 + TI2013 will not work. Pls update the docu. You need to have WinPE 4.0 to be successful.
Cheers,
Felix

Thanks Felix for sharing your solution!
I also made a WinPE 4.0 Acronis bootable USB stick for my 500T tablet, but not with TI2013 Build 6514 and TI2014 Build 5560.
By using these versions you will get the following error: "To be able to modify WinPE 2.0 or WinPE 3.0 images, install Acronis WinPE ISO Builder on a computer where Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) is installed." See: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/41255
I resolved it by using TI 2013 build 5587.

Hi,
I have Samsung ATIV 500T, it's Windows Boot Manager, got replaced with GNU GRUB 2.0, when i tried installing Remix OS, on a 15GB partition (created out of the in-built 64GB storeage).
So whenever the laptop started, on BIOS's Exit TAB, Below the Boot Override menu,
it showed Windows Boot Manager, but clicking it, would load GNU GRUB, & it showed RemixOS as the only option.
I created a bootable Windows recovery flashdrive, from another laptop's Windows 10.
which would boot succesfully from BIOS (showing as UEFI: USB Windows Recovery)
I tried reset option, but due to low free space, it did not go forward,
then i went into command prompt option,
& used DISKPART > CLEAN, in order to clean the partition, where RemixOS was installed.
But unfortunately, it CLEANED the whole disk, & noew the partitions were gone, & it showed whole disk as free.
After this, I exited the command prompt & restarted the laptop.
Now the BIOS, screen did NOT show the "Windows Boot Manager".
I tried various Data recovery software's bootable disk versions.
But none would boot from the BIOS screen of my Samsung ATIV 500T.
Help me out here, as i have important data in C:\, after recovering it, I want to install a fresh Windows 10 on my laptop.

osr.arora,
The first thing is do you have a backup of your data at all?
The second thing is, do not write anything to this drive at all for the moment.
Thirdly, you are positive you only used the CLEAN option and not the CLEAN ALL option.
Assuming you only used the CLEAN option, you will need a disk utility such as Disk Director or a utility that can undelete your files. The CLEAN command marks all your disk contents (except for the boot partition), so though you can't see them the files are still there unless you have started writing other data to the disk.
The command you actually need to play with is FIXMBR and possibly the BCD, for which I would suggest using EASYBCD booted from a USB stick.
AS for getting utilities to boot from USB on your laptop I have some questions. Does the laptop use UEFI or a standard BIOS? If a standard BIOS you might need to not only enable boot from USB but also change the USB priority to the number 1 position and have the hard drive as the second.

Hi,
Thanks for replying, the answer to your queries are:
1. I don't have a backup.
2. I have not written anything to the disk after the CLEAN command.
3. I used CLEAN.
4. I don't know how to successfully boot EasyBCD from a USB stick.
5. As i have already made numerous bootable USB drive, from Easeus/Acronis/MiniTool/easy Recovery Essentials/Partition Magic.
But none would boot.
Only thing that boots from USB is "Windows Recovery USB", which i created from another Laptop's Windows 10's "create a recovery media" utility.
Also As already told, my Laptop is Samsung ATIV 500T, which DOES-NOT have legacy BIOS, or even Advanced TAB in BIOS. Disabling Secure boot, doesn't help either.
Lastly, now I am trying to use "Lazesoft Recovery Software Home Edition" to create it's bootable USB drive,
But i'm not hopeful, it will work either.

UPDATE :-) :-)
The bootable USB, created by "Lazesoft Recovery Software Home Edition", sucessfully booted from BIOS, automatically after turning laptop ON.
Also, it detects my 1TB Toshiba external hard drive (where i will save the recovered files) & Lenovo Wireless mouse too.
