Not deleting older backups, as configured.

Thread needs solution

I've configured 11.5 Advanced for SBS to keep no more than two backups, due to their large size - 324Gb each.

As you can see, there are currently four backups in the personal vault. The software is not deleting older backups. How do I get the software to do what I've instructed? I'm having to manually delete one backup file per day.

Are those all full backups or do they have dependencies (incrementals or differentials)?

What type of plan do you use?
Did you configure "delete" or "consolidate" as retention mode?

Thanks for the reply.

Those are full backups. The plan retention is configured to "delete" backups older than two days. It doesn't.

Hello Bob J.,

Thank you for using Acronis software. I am happy to assist you.

In order to get the cause, I need more information.

  • How the backup plan is set up exact? (screenshots may help)
  • What is set in the retention rules?
  • What kind of storage you are using? (internal disk, removable disk, NAS, SAN, FTP)

I am looking forward for your reply.

Location - Personal vault on Disk 2 (D:) (internal disk)
Backup Scheme - Simple
Schedule - Every day at 3:00 a.m.

Backup type: Full
When to validate - After full

Hello Bob J.,

Thank you for your reply.

In this situation, I want to ask you to delete the obsolete backups manually via Acronis Management Console. This will rewrite the metadata.

If you want to hold only two backups at least, define only 1 day. This will leave the two backups on disk. You will find additionally information about retention rules in our online help.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm uncertain exactly where and how this is accomplished in the Management Console. My choices across the menu are Connect, Actions, Tools, Navigation, Options and Help.

Thank you.

Right click on the images from within the Archive Explorer (Select archive from either local or central vaults, then click on the file you want from the middle bottom form, right click and tick untick the images you want to delete).

Hello Bob J.

Thank you for your reply.

I want to thank Colin B. for supporting you.

You first have to connect to the local machine in order to work with this product. Please start the Acronis Management Console -> manage local machine -> at the left navigation tree go to vaults -> choose the vault -> choose the backups to delete and right click on it and choose -> delete.

If you need additional assistance, please contact support. You will find all available support options in or Customer handbook.

If there is anything else, we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
