Should TI 2013 reset the archive bit after backup?

Thread needs solution

I have just started using the home trial version of TI 2013 and after one full and one incremental backup the archive bit on the original files do not seem to getting reset and they seem to keep getting backed up. Should I be setting something to do this please?

Thanks

If you are doing disk/partition based backups, the archive bits will not change. Disk/partition based backups work at the sector level, and don't even look at the files individually. The data is backed up by coping only the sectors that contain data, and subsequent incremental or differential backups only backup sectors that have changed since the previous backup (in the case of incrementals) or the original backup (in the case of differentials).

Thanks James. I'll reset the archive bit manually some time after the scheduled backup and hopefully that will solve the problem.
I know what you mean about the link between chair and keyboard!

I'm not sure what problem you have. If ATI sees that sectors have changed, they will be included in an incremental disk or partition backup. If they haven't changed, they won't be included. Whether you set the archive bit manually or not makes no difference to that type of backup.

Thanks for that Tuttle. The problem I had was me - not understanding the difference between file and sector backups and how they work. Now that you and James (previous answer) have helped with my education I know what is happening and what is the best solution for me.

Thanks again guys.
